Fantasies, help us survive our realities. This is mine, I'll continue to dream it knowing fate will guide me there. Until then hope will get me through each day.
As I stare, I feel my soul leave my body...
towards the stars I drift...
beyond them I travel...
to Fantasyland...
And so it is that I find myself outside, my bare feet feeling the
moistness of the dew on the grass.
Suddenly, I realize that I'm dressed in a long, loose fitting,
flowing, filmy, white robe. I look to
the sky just as lightening flashes in the heavens. I feel a
drop of rain hit my cheek and slowly slide
downward. I stand mesmerized as the steady rain and cool breeze
christen me to the darkness of
the night. I raise my right hand to my shoulder, finding a
loose silk thread, I start to pull it. The
tension on the thread increases and I turn to look upon the
love of my life and my four children.
Noticing, that as each one walks through the door towards me,
they too, become dressed in
white. I release the silk thread and extend my right hand to my
husband, and after a brief spark,
our fingers are intertwined. I then tilt my head back, eyes to
the star filled sky, raising my left arm
up, I circle it around my head counter clockwise once.
Two white winged
horses appear and each kneels down on their front forelegs.
I am confronted with five pairs of curious eyes. My green
eyes cast a shocking glance at my soulmate, and he knows what
it is I want. Together we help
the three older children onto the back of one of the horses, and
then place ourselves and the baby
upon the other. His arms around my waist and one of mine around
the baby, I bend down and
place my cheek against the neck of the horse, and with one warm
breath from me, my dear
winged friend knows all.
Both horses raise their heads and stand. They start off slow,
but in no time they are running and
we are lifting towards the sky. The brisk dampness of the cool
night wind refreshes me as it
blows my hair back, and the scent of my perfume envelops him. We all watch as the earth
grows small, and we pass the moon. Then as the last star has
been passed, we begin our decent.
The children are amazed as we see a mythical flying dragon go by.
The horses then place us
in a field of fresh, green, spring grass. They kneel again,
allowing us to dismount. Once the last
child has been removed from the horse's back, they both turn and
run.
On a distant hill we see a castle, and it is that direction that
we choose. We walk along a worn dusty road, that has obviously
been well traveled. Approaching the castle, I finally realize,
that
despite our long journey, our clothes remain unsullied. As if we
were expected, the drawbridge
lowers and we proceed to cross it. The huge wooden door opens
inward to allow us
admittance. A young girl, clothed in a plain, long, brown dress
with a dingy white apron motions
for us to follow. the stone floor is cold against our feet, and
the air is damp and musty within the
castle. The light from the candles along the walls does little
to help us see our way. We begin to
ascend a long spiral staircase. There are intermittent landings
with doors that appear to lead to
other areas of the castle. At long last, the girl pushes open a
door and steps aside to let us pass.
Once we are all standing withing the room, she leaves, closing
the door behind her.
The room is very dark with the exception of a blue glow that
radiates from a table in the center.
Something unknown pulls us passed the table, and it was then that
we noticed that we were not
alone. A man with long white hair and a beard, dressed in a blue
robe that sparkled with some
indescribable light, stood before us. "You know not why you have
traveled so far?" He questioned.
"I know only that I followed the stars," I replied.
"And I know that I followed her, to keep from losing her,"
my husband replied.
The wizard spoke again, "You are both right, but there is a
deeper reason for you being
here, and that is for me to disclose. You are looking for
something that is not of your world. She
came because her subconsious realized this, and you followed
because it was in your heart to
do so. This journey can only be made when you have gained from
your world all that you need in
order to obtain what I hold here for you."
"I knew only that there was something beyond the stars, and that
is why I came." I found my
myself saying as I looked down at the crystal ball on the table.
The wizard, noticing what I was looking at began, "What is held
within that crystal ball is
only of benefit to those of this world. Through the centuries,
the people of your world have
handed down stories of wizards, dragons, unicorns and the magic
that is held here. None of
these things will be of assistance to you throughout your lives,
so there is no need to dwell on
these."
Squeezing my husband's hand with my right, and holding the baby's
hand with my left, my
eyes moved from the glowing object on the table and locked with
those of the wizard, "If nothing here is to be of any help,
then why is it that I have pulled my family from their home to
journey
past the stars?" I asked, hearing my voice tremble as I spoke.
"I have only one thing to give you, and that I shall do"
the wizard paused for a moment,
"I give you the realization that you both love each other beyond
comparison. while your
differences are many, they are not meant to conflict, but to
compliment. These differences are
there so that you may loan them to your partner when they are in
need of that which they lack.
This means that while each of you is your own person, you are
also the opposite, but
complimenting side of a whole. These words are just a
reaffirmation of what you already know in
your hearts, and while they will help you in the future, they are
not why you are here." The wizard then slowly took his hands out
from
beneath his robe and then loosely cupped them together. "I give
you the only thing that is left,
and that for which you were drawn here to receive!"
His hands rapidly separate and lift towards the ceiling and from
them flew a silvery dust.
In a soothing voice he spoke, "You came to me with souls and
hearts entangled, those
which were searching for a bond. It is stardust that is settling
upon your skin, which will form a
bond as it is absorbed. I have given you the only thing that can
travel from my world to yours."
His voice grew louder, "I have given you eternity!" We watched
as his hands came back down to rest at his sides.
I turned to look at my husband, and felt the heavy rain beat down
upon my head, and another bolt of lightening lit up the sky. We
all stood in the yard again, and in the distant sky watched as
two
winged horses flew out of sight, beyond the stars.
It was my love
for the rain, darkness, coolness, wizards and mystical things that inspired this story in which the two forces join
to create something even greater. I hope all that read it enjoy
it, and that they too can find something
beyond the stars.
