This album is a reissue of "Swastikas For Noddy", everything else being the same except 'Noddy' changed for 'Goddy' in the CD-booklet. Unlike most Current 93 albums, this one lacks a coherent theme. The songs vary from traditional folk to religious and from religous to satanistic. Musically the album is just as variant. It is partly acoustic, partly experimental and partly something different.Tibet sounds very enthusiastic throughout the entire album, his most impressive perfomance being an old traditional english folk song called, "Oh Coal black smith". Also, "Beasoleil", after first causing confusion and mixed emotions with its chaos of music and chants on the background, is a nice piece with perky vocals from Tibet as reads his own poem. All the songs somehow manage to mix fun with seriousness.
John Balance manages (once again) to ruin the song "The Final Church" with his background "singing/humming". We do not recollect the name of the man who sang in "Benediction" and "Malediction", but he made a very good perfomance, sounding like how you'd expect a bard to. Freya Aeswynn, a woman from Iceland, sings with her personal voice "North", an incantation for Odhinn.
Douglas P. performs the song, "Hello Angel", the lyrics being written by him. The music on this song is distinctly Death in June by the strumming of the guitar. Boyd Rice is also present on many of the songs when you least expect him as in "Oh Coal Black Smith" where he preaches of death and of the apocalypse (or maybe in the context of this album one should say Ragnarok). Him being the philosophical element of this album, the texts are full of content and depth, very much similar to Scorpion Wind's album "Heaven Sent". He never stops! Indeed, he shouldn't.
Lastly, Rose Mcdowall who, more often than not, doesn't seem to belong to the group (to us, that is)perhaps for the reason that she appears to be a goth with no depth in her. Nonetheless, makes a pleasant appearance on the song "(Hey Ho) The Noddy (Oh)".
Overall, the album is nice. It is not perfect or as coherent a work as Current 93's more recent releases but without it, something would be missing. Oh, and we really really like Tibet's use of Noddy! Him choosing Noddy for an image of God, representing innocence and childhood's purity, is just a fine idea.
