Halloween! Samhane 1997 Issue of Black Fire/Moon Fire

We're in the Papers Again! It Must Be Halloween!

Commentary by Bifrost

Every Halloween we become fashionable again!

Most of the year the papers ignore us. Just another religious group who happen to call themselves witches.

But once a year, the papers need us for local color!

That's fine with us. Like P.T. Barnum said: Say anything you want about us -- just spell our name right!

The first article this year was a Clergy Profile of Hecate Circle founder and Unitarian minister Rel Davis, in the Sun-Sentinel, Broward County's daily paper. (See photo above.)

Pretty fair article, but more a "gospel column" type of story than anything else. If you see a copy, notice one major typographical error! Rel writes sonnets, not sonatas.

The next big article was also in the Sun-Sentinel. This was an entire page of articles, all by teenagers, in the Next Generation section of the paper, a section for teens.

This section featured a photo of Rel and an article by our own Roland Wordstone!

The third article was in City Links magazine (formerly XS) two days before Samhane. This article, by Phil Davis, emphasized the connection between Samhane and the Burning Times.

He gave a completely fair description of modern (and ancient) witchcraft. The article was a well-documented indictment of Christianity and its role in the Inquisition.

A refreshing change from the usual coverage we get in the Cowan press!
