I just watched a taped telecast of someone giving a lecture. I caught the last 20 minutes of it by accident, while i was staring at my assignment and it was obviously a welcome distraction. The speaker was this guy, John Ralston Saul, who's a historian and novelist, and he was speaking in a lecture theatre that looked suspiciously like one in my uni, but i digress. This guy was brilliant! He covered stuff like democracy, the free market and basically an overview of the world in reference to australia. He denounced globalisation, mocked rationalism and spoke in latin. I was so impressed i stopped doing my assignment (ahah), and its just so typical of my brain that i don't remember much of what he said, although a few cogent points stuck in my head. little truths. He was funny too.
I love attending these lectures by really good speakers, and last year, i went to one, in the afore-mentioned lecture hall in my uni. it was by James Watson..of Watson and Crick fame. you know those guys? they came up with the model of the DNA molecule, the founding fathers of modern biology, blah blah, and although i was just so awed to be in the same room with him, much less listen to him speak, it was a huge disappointment since he mumbled and no one could hear anything he said. And no one dared interrupt this eminent genius to ask him to speak up.
Oh well. I went shopping today. Automatic reaction to stress #2. #1 was to cut my hair. Anyhow, about 5 minutes after i got off the bus on oxford street, i tripped and broke my sandals. Yeah. And then i had to wobble with dignity to the nearest shoe shop, where the saleslady was entirely unsympathetic and i bet overcharged me for the pair of shoes i picked, which ended up giving me blisters (which are such fun to play with but..) and Anyway, i managed 5 hours of walking with them, so they're well and truly broken in. These 5 hours of walking also took about $180 of my money and so now again i am well and truly broke, although i now have a Perfect pair of black drawstring pants, dark blue cargo shorts, a black sling bag, and... other stuff. But i need new beach sandals.
I've
also started on my computing assignment, something like 2 weeks late. I
didn't start earlier because i swear i didn't know how to do it. But i
guess the trick is just to start, and then it sorts itself out. Well, sort
of.
Its
friday night. Tomorrow is the weekend. A free day. Two of them. Woo hoo.
Happiness.
My
parents are away. they flew off a few days ago for singapore and KL...and
dunno where else. Food is strange nowadays. I just had bourbon bean (top
quality) vanilla ice cream with mixed nuts and blueberries for dinner.
Oh HAPPINESS !. and its a valid diet okay? ice cream is good for you. ask
a nutritionist. and the blueberries are fruits and u know fruits are good.
and nuts... all that nutty goodness. why i think i'll have another serve...
aieee... i dropped a blueberry...its rolling...and rolling... blueberry
runaway! can u just smell the happiness.
Green
The
dawn was apple-green,
The sky was green wine held up in the sun,
The
moon was a green petal between.
She
opened her eyes, and green
They shone, clear like flowers undone
For
the first time, now for the first time seen.

I just watched Cocktail on tv...for the first time, although it probably was like the 5th repeat. Tom Cruise is a very beautiful man. [lust lust]
Yesterday, was a Marvellous day. (grin) i went to watch RENT in the afternoon, myself and 3 friends had seats in the 3rd (or 4th) row, which was incredibly near the stage, and the best part was we got student discounts, which meant we paid $30 for $70 seats. (grin again). If you don't know what Rent is, just think of it as the anti-musical, where half the cast characters have AIDs, and it's never going to run in Singapore. (grin grin grin)
I want to buy the soundtrack. Anyway, in the cast, there was this character, Mark, who was one of the few people with a healthy immune system and was more or less the narrator throughout the thing. aaannnddd....he's SO Adorable! looked like a hamster. Fatally cute. Just wanted to take him home put him in a cage and feed him carrots... or buy a hamster and make it put on glasses and a scarf. i have a serious rodent anthropomorphic-inverse complex thingy.
And then there was another guy who stood out. He's chinese i think, but dyes his hair blonde, and he played the part of Angel, the transvestite with the heart of gold lamé. But seriously, he was really great to watch, he was probably the best dancer, and when in drag, the prettiest one on stage. The bulging leg muscles were particularly interesting in green tights too. heh. oh well.
I'm
pretty much babbling aimlessly here. I had a full day by the way... after
Rent, we were walking around in the city, and then we saw a poster for
a dance party later in the night, and decided to go. yeah! so we went back
and agreed to meet in about 2 hours. Now i will digress. I don't think
i mentioned this before, but my parents were out of state. In melbourne
i think, and i was responsible for my brother (he refused to go, the scum),
who spends entire days in front of his desktop, just playing online games
till death does he part. He eats anything portable he can find for meals,
and its also probably safe to say that if somehow he accidentally ate a
vegetable, his body wouldn't know what to do with it. I keep feeling like
i have to find him some source of fibre or something, but my parents are
back again so that's my mother's problem again. haha.
Anyway,
we went to the paaarrty. It had one of those inane names: Fusion.
Parties by international student groups have the dumbest names. like Fluid,
Cherish, Style,... I forget the rest. I think Orgy is a pretty fun name
though. lets see if anyone will use that.
Want
a party report? First, guess who i passed walking in? Yes! deja vü
alert! it was tony the eternal party animal again. This is getting almost
routine. Anyway, this was the lamest party i've ever been to here in sydney.
It was rather crowded, and one of my friends wasn't feeling very well an
hour into it and deposited her mcdonalds extra-value meal on the sidewalk.
Oh well. There was the usual severe lack of cute guys, too many pretty
females and the only amusement begotten was watching tony be drunk, although
he insisted he wasn't.
(on the stairs to the bathrooms...)
tony> heyy... hi! hihi! - stumble stumble -
hi tony... eh are you drunk?
> wha? me? Noooooo.. faaaar from it! [fling arms about to show just how far]
alriight. i'll see u later then?
> yeah? Yeah! you good? good! i'm good! (to passing person) How 'bout u? u good?
:-)
I was there with megan who threw up and left early, and daniel, a dear new friend who tolerated all my nonsense the entire day and through the night. He misses his girlfriend though. heheh. A solitary state of being has its qualities but the hunger never really goes away.
I have
too much work to do and i've wasted the entire weekend. Back to the brain
now. oh to be a remorseless slacker (the difference in the guilt).
AAAAAARRRRGGGHHH!!!!!!
The first java assignment is out!! the first Math assignment is out!! The first freaking Weekly Math test starts this week and i freaking don't know how to do half the questions in freaking chapter ONE! AAAAARRRGGHHH!!!!!!!!
i need to kill someone. Why the hell did i do summer? Why the hell didn't i take General Maths. Damn smart move. AAAAAARGGGH. I'm a complete idiot.
You know why i'm venting? WELL, with the advent of the assignments, particularly the computing one, I have NO LIFE for the rest of the month. Not just the usual no life, but i really don't have a choice and i have to sit in front of this freaking monitor for days and nights and days and nights and i already don't feel so friendly towards these computing assignments since the last one didn't get fairly marked. *fume fume*.
And
then i still have to friggin try to understand the calculus. i have to
pass the weekly tests, and u know how i suck at maths. Maths is EVIL!!!!!
CALCULUS IS THE SPAWN OF THE SMELLY DEVIL !!! KILL KILL KILLL !!!
i feel like killing someone. UUURGH!!!!
