Farewell to SAU

By John A. Wilson

The soft gentle breeze

Slowly rustles the leaves.

They seem to wave goodbye.

Magnolia leaves fall

On the grass covered mall

And a blue jay goes flying by.

The tower stands tall

Behind Overstreet Hall

A silent sentinel there

‘Till its Westminster chime

Announces the time

With sweet notes ringing clear.

The theater peers out

And sidewalks show the route

To the library across the way

Where students research

And gray pigeons perch

From dawn ‘till dusk every day.

It all looks the same

As the first day I came,

The fruit of my dream to see

Through four long years

Of classes, smiles and tears

The only thing changed is me.
