Almost a year ago, I read an article about "The Clothesline Project." If you aren't familiar with that project I would recommend that you read up on it. It is a wonderful project concerning violence against women. The project is mainly about raising awareness of the widespread nature of violence against women, but it also gives victims of this insidious violence an opportunity to publicly air their feelings and still maintain their anonymity. After reading the article I knew that I had to try to start a similar project at my school. I know, from firsthand experience, how much it helps to get your feelings out about something that has been eating at you for years, and how much it helps in the healing process. So I started a project based on "The Clothesline Project." While we were in the process of getting things going I was asked why I was doing such a project. It is widely known among my friends that I am a Republican, and this is a project that is concerned with women's issues, normally something a Democrat is more likely to be doing. I had to think long and hard about the answer to that question. I came to the conclusion that my interest in the project was due to my "Knight-in-shining-armor" complex. I wrote this poem in an attempt to explain why I did that project.
