The following is a preliminary description by the author of a very impressive index (annotated bibliography might be a more descriptive term) of television and movie quicksand scenes. The index is currently in its 11th edition. Crypto Knight (the author) has promised a more detailed piece to be posted here eventually. What appears here is a portion of an email letter posted to the Deep_Sinking Club and, following the suggestion of Crypto, re-printed here.

What the HELL do you DO for a living?).

Well, I'm a Mainframe Cobol programmer who has a knack for technical detail,

thoroughness, and resourcefulness and who has T1 ISDN Internet access at work.

Additionally, to create the TV/Movie QS list, I have had some excellent

resources available. I started out with the list of scenes compiled by Rob

Frank and Dave Lodoski on The Quicksand Page; then added my own recollections

of qs scenes; purchased all of Dave's MPV QS Clip tapes; did searches for

"quicksand or bog or mire or muck or mud" text in the plot descriptions and

movie reviews in the Internet Movie DB, the TV Guide Movie DB, the All-Movie

Guide, DejaNews newsgroup archives, and some others to obtain potential scenes

and program details; checked TV episode guides on official and fan websites for

various TV shows for same; search on a weekly basis (or thereabouts) the

on-line TV schedule listings at ClickTV for the same keywords for new and known

qs scenes airing (but not yet on tape); traded clips with other qs fans; and

finally, all the wonderful input and recollections and sightings from everyone

in the QS/Mud groups! And rather than keep such a list for myself as a

reference (which is how I started out), I've gladly shared it. So in other

words, an obsessive-compulsive qs enthusiast with a little too much time on his

hands.

...and way too many other TV show fan websites to list!

(Hey, you know... FRED588 asked me way back when if I could write up a brief

article about my list for his website by describing its development like a

scientific article describing development of a reference work, like why such

a list was needed, what had been done by others before I began, and explain how

I proceeded to gather information. I guess this very nearly qualifies.

Perhaps I should get off my duff and write it up, using this as a start. Hey

Fred, if you're listening, feel free to extract what you'd like from this email

and post on your site until such time I finally send you something.)
