Proselets:  Each is a short story of sorts...  very short.  I've arranged them by their first letter, because there is no actual connection between them.  I think...

A

After some careful consideration, I decided that perhaps the chalk wasn't posessed after all.  Maybe I'm just allergic.

Ample folds of cloth covered the smalll, still form on the carpet, a bit of red was beginning to seep through the shroud.  Why someone had blanketed the spilt ketchup bottle, he did not know.

B

Beyond the entryway, a massive window presided over the room.  Tall and sculpted with a window-glass pattern that looked like human skin... she wondered whose it was.

Babies were scampering all over the place, and once they infest a place most everything is hopeless.

C

Columbine twines its way upward.  Every unfurling leaf is painfully, glaringly green.  I cannot see the flower, only the undersides of leaves and a perspective-tapered stem.  Would that it weren't growing out of my eyes.

"Carol isn't here, so don't ask!!!" shreiked the irate woman in teakettle tones, blushing purple and ripping at the pesky nametag reading "Carol."

Cold and Damp, her hands pressed against the clammy pavement.   She wondered who had given her hands those names in the first place.

D

Don't you see me standing over here?  Oh wait, of course you wouldn't.  I ceased to exist only a few minutes ago.  My mistake.

Diamonds littered the sidewalk as passers-by sneered in contempt.

"Don't ask me again, please.  First off, you already know the answer, and secondly I'm a mime."

E

Everything was cycling round and round in a maddening whirl of blurs and cascading voices, his ears throbbed with bursting pulses of frantic blood.   He decided to get off the merry-go-round.

Elephants rampaged in the streets, shattering shopwindows and trampling the populace.  Some weather we're having, huh?

F

"Fine," she said stonily.  Silly me to assume she was being offended, she really just wanted a toll.

Fixations are generally unhealthy.  Except his, which was health.

G

Gold flecks peppered the irises of his eyes, reflecting and projecting tiny yellow sparkles.  Upon closer inspection, the flecks were real gold, embedded in those dead, staring eyes.

Galloping hooves pound past the west edge of the fence.   Strange that they aren't attatched to anything.

Great sculptures adorned the walls of the room they cautiously entered.  On second glance, they weren't that great after all.

H

How can I burn bridges when fate walks through fire?

Hello, you say, hello, you say, hello, you say, hello.   You were raised by a parrot.

"How do you do?" he queried.  She told him that she didn't.

I

Internally they buzz.  Humming, humming.  Is it a fly or a song?  Or a fly singing a song...?  Stop it!  Stop singing!  Stop buzzing!  Stop humming!  I tire of your ceaseless intonations, your tangled flat melodies.   Stop!

In my dreams I always envisioned you a certain, perfect way-- silent, with sunlight glancing off your left cheek.  Did I mention you were dead too?

Igloos are all very well and good, but they serve only as thirst quenchers in the tropics.

J

Jealous throngs swarmed around her house;  screaming, pushing, all begging for some little piece of her incredible being.  They clamored in every language, they trampled the lawn in their urgency.  She woke up and looked out the window, not knowing why they should target ordinary her.

Jovial.  Droll.  Most amusing.  He never knew light switches could be so humorous, and was very greatful to have been shown.

Jane Doe was summarily executed by the kidnappers, and remains unidentified to this day, even though they unknowingly call her by name.

K

Kelvin drew two lines on the pavement with the toe of his shoe.   This was just the start... this was just the start.

Kleptomania is a term which was likely stolen from some earlier word form.

L

Life is but a dream.  Shall I never wake up?  Am I forever destined to wander about in slumber's stupor?  Probably.  My life's-alarm is not set.

Lifting the heavy  box in the attic proved to be worthwhile after all, for there, nestled in the dark square of the dustless floor gleamed a single tiny object.  Yes, yes, it was, at last, finally...  no, wait, it wasn't.  Damn.

M

"Mind you, watch that first step on the way out," came the painfully coarse voice from the hall.  I wondered at this, seeing as there was no way out, and certainly no step.

"Must you stare at me like that??  I wouldn't mind if it weren't for those damn laser beams your eyes shoot."

Miles stretched before her on the highway.  Standing in the middle of the road, he must have been tired.

N

Never have I been so offended in my life!  In the first place, that was my sister you just ran over, and secondly, you didn't do a half good job of it.

Nothing, I say, and that is the absolute truth.  Well maybe not... even nothing is something.

Never underestimate the power of underestimation.

O

Olive-colored clouds hung overhead, looking like green olives in the smog, and black olives during the storm.  Watching the sky made him hungry.

Old and frail, her eyes were difficult to see-- mostly because her eyebrows had grown to a length of three feet.

"Oh woe, woe upon me!" he whimpered, knowing that not even detergent will remove woe stains.

P

Pallid faces lined the street, flanking the blistering pavement with icy stares.   The gauntlet of pale, flashing eyes beckoned.  It was hopelessly the only way to the other side.

Pies were cooling on the windowsill, birds were chirping, green grass was lushly growing.  Now if that's not disturbing, nothing is.

Q

Quiet mice made happy snipping sounds with their clever little teeth.  It would be cute, she thought, were they not eating her skin.

Quintessentially, the idea is perfect.  That is not the problem.  You see, I was asking for flawed logic.

R

Really, I'm not sure I should have opened it in the first place... but it was so tempting, that tall metal file cabinet with strange markings on the drawers!  I guess it doesn't matter, it was empty anyway.

Rather dull, don't you think?  Both the conversation and the knife.  See that you fix it, dear.

Realization of is true nature slapped her in the face like a two-by-four.  This was no caring, compassionate person.  Caring and compassionate, yes, but a person, no.

S

Smallish glass beads were strewn about the unmoving hand.  Each one reflected in fisheye perspective the scene I suddenly came upon.

Suddenly the lights went out.  They'd only been friends before, so this was indeed a bit unexpected.

Single strands of hair hung across her face.  I say "single" with the plural "strands" you see, because each hair was from a different person.

T

Time passes ever so slowly when you've been reduced to two dimensions.   ...ev-er...so...slow-ly...

Terrestrial life is so earthly.

Time and time again, which is what happens when you use two clocks.

U

Until you come back, I shall not move from this spot.  But I do hope you come back soon for I am standing over a growing cactus.

"Unfortunate," he stated, sliding the word over teeth and lips with the manner of oil.  Great, now I couldn't use the word, it was in a greasy heap on the floor.

V

Verily I say to thee:  verily.  Seest thou?  I told thee I wouldst say verily to thee, and that I didst.

Vindictive eyes gazed in her direction.  Someone had left them sitting on the table.

Very slowly, he opened the big, black door of unknown origins.   Turned out it led to the bathroom.

W

Wishful thinking will only get you so far.  But:  how far is so?  Maybe it's a long ways, I don't know.  Who can you ask about this sort of thing anyway?

"Where would one go about buying such a thing?" he asked politely.  The sparrow refused to respond.

Why oh why must you torment me so??  ... oh... that's a pretty good reason, I guess.

X

"X" was drawn boldly in the sand.  She looked in both directions but no person, no animal, no other form of life could be seen.  Only she and X.

"Xanthophyll, of course."  And suddenly everything made sense.  I mean everything.

Xylophones built from the bones of their enemies rung sweet chords into the warm, starry Connecticut night.

Y

Yelps issued from the back shed.  Had it been inhabited all would have been natural.

Yelling will get you nowhere.  That's what cars are for, genius.

Z

Zippity-doo-dah has some very sinister undertones, doesn't it?   Ugh, the very thought makes me shudder.

Zapping sounds issued forth from the neon death chamber as each solitary form was drawn to the inexorable beauty of the killer.  The bugs all died.

Zero.  The number sums it all up.  It is the beginning, the middle and the end of infinity.  It is the exception and the rule all in one.  Birth and death, dark and light, all is zero.

Now you've read my A B C's.   Hope you don't think I'm Cra-zy.

(but i am)
