Obtaining the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer certification involves rigorous training, study, and hands-on experience. The exams are difficult, and many do not pass on their first attempt. There are four core requirements and two elective exams.
The Core Requirements
Implementing and Supporting NT Server 4.0: This exam extensively covers the NT operating system.
Implementing and Supporting NT Server 4.0 in the Enterprise: Covers multiple domain situations, which are often seen in larger corporations, and wide area networks, or WAN's.
Implementing and Supporting NT Workstation 4.0: Covers the client, or end-user, operating system. (Note: The Windows 95 exam may also fill this requirement.)
Networking Essentials: Tests for basic network knowledge and troubleshooting skills, especially as they relate to Microsoft Networking.
Electives
TCP/IP: Extensive coverage of the TCP/IP suite of protocols, the protocols of the internet and the majority of networks.
Implementing and Supporting Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 4.0: Covers Microsoft's Web, FTP, and News server. Includes database-to-web skills, security, and web site management.
Many other electives are available, but these are the ones I chose.
