Title: Wishing On A Star
Writer: Valerie Gonzales

Every single night,
I use to wish on a
star.I would look
up at the sky and
pick the brightest
star to make my nightly
wish on. I use
to believe that
wishes came true
when you wished
upon a star. I
would wish for
love and wish
for happiness.
Thinking that
these things
could become a
part of my life
by simply gazing
up into the black
velvet sky, closing
my eyes, and
wishing. But slowly,
I began to stop
wishing on every
star in the sky.
I guess I always
knew, that just
because you
wish on a star,
doesn't mean
whatever you
are wishing for
will come true.
But I have finally
come to the realization,
I finally fully
understand, that wishing
on star, is just like
telling the sky your
wishes, your hopes, your
dreams, and your fears.
It listens to you, but
it can't change your life.
I learned all this when
I realized that true love
is battle. A battle against
others, a battle within
yourself, and battle
of strength. A battle
that I have not yet won,
but have tried to fight
many times. Wishing on a
star, is wishful thinking,
and wishful dreaming.
You can't wish for the
battle to be won. You
have to win the battle
yourself, and have
the strength to not
wish on every single
star, that lives
in the deep
oceans of the
endless sky.
