"The Last Book {is} a work of interactive fiction that both challenges and involves the reader to an extraordinary degree with every turn of the page. The Last Book, to the best of my knowledge, is the first such work to be based so closely on computer logic, though most readers would never realize this, so well crafted is the book....
"{TAJ} began his preparations for The Last Book, not by preparing a synopsis, but by preparing an algorithm: a statement of all the steps necessary to complete a program....
"Again it's important to let the non-technically minded reader know that none of this is apparent when reading The Last Book. While it is an extremely unconventional novel and always a challenging read, its structure is hidden, though the astute reader will come across a number of hints of the immense preparation and thought behind it.
"One simple example of this preparation comes right at the beginning: the first section is BIRTH and is composed of nine pages! This also demonstrates nicely the underlying humor that accompanies the book's logical arrangement.
"There are also eight basic plots dealing with violence, sex, faith, etc. 'but there are so many permutations going through these,' says {TAJ}, 'that it becomes 1,000 plots because everyone reads it differently.'"
