Doolittle’s Y2K Doings

Being fluent in
the language of fish, birds, frogs
and the insect world,
Doolittle’s training
legions of catepillers
to walk our minefields.

First Day Cover He’s also teaching
European luna moths
to drop olive pits
into gun barrels
held aloft by warring troops
in the battle zone.

But that is not all:
Doctor Doolittle has plans
to protect the Earth
from high-tech madness
and deliver it safely
to hexapod friends.

In his worldwide web,
he’s enlisting spiders, bees,
roaches, flies and lice
to gnaw, gnash, and chew,
to snarl, tangle, jam, and cut
Internet wiring.

The elevator
that traps you between two floors
will have stopped because
he has had his ants
infiltrate the fuse box and
short all the circuits.

If you’ve been afraid
of losing precious data
to faulty programs,
better think again:
Wasps and beetles, centipedes,
they’re the enemy.

Fretting Y2K?
The only conspiracy
that really matters
is the one no one
is talking about at all:
Millennium bugs.
