Max Chen's portfolio. big whoop. load the images you
shmuck.

Here are some crappy scans from photos and slides.

Jabberwocky
Scratchboard from a high school graphic design class. After one really good print, the plastic board cracked in half. Talk about limited edition.
Raiden
Just some Asian looking magician. Probably inspired by Mortal Kombat or Big Trouble in Little China.
Mecha Drider
I have a thing for bugs and mecha.
mecha Mitsubishi ant car
bug/mecha. All the yellow pictures are from Kinko's sorry excuse for a slide scanner.
mecha dragonfly
bug/mecha
Darkman
Negative and positive space study.
soapstone carving
Did this during Boy Scout camp WAY back in '91. Just picked up a stone and started carving. Catalina Island has whole riverbeds of nice carving stone.
Sunglasses on the sun
I painted a very similar thing on a pair of overalls a year earlier at Oljato, another Boy Scout camp. Many of these sketches were done in the Freehand Drawing class at Cornell. It was in the horticulture department and held in the glass enclosed top floor of some building. I'd spend hours just sitting and sketching. It was grand. Professor Lambert must have been teaching there for decades. Leathery pipe smoking man- stooped over but extremely good at painting and sketching.
Gundam Sentinal plastic model
In elementary, junior high, and high school my brother and I built shitloads of mecha models. They are really the reason why I later became interested in anime. Gundum has always had really cool robots. This one is my prize. Recently I've been giving them away to friends since I really don't need them anymore and they are so fragile.
Snow Speeder package design
Another thing I did in high school. Snow Speeder blister pack. The entire board was meant to be kept because it had collectible technical information on the back.
Magician miniature
Another thing my brother and I did a lot as kids was paint miniatures. For him it was an extention of gaming - roleplaying and stuff. For me, I gave up gaming just to paint the guys.
Dragonlance miniature
The worst thing about having the hobbies that I have - is that everything is so damn fragile. People are always impressed by the amount of detail in the painted figures, but it really is technique and very small brushes.
