I've always liked portraits that are like some kind of stareing contest. No smile, no frown, just looking. What makes art portraits the most fun to look at is the fact that you have permission to study the subject's facial details. It makes it more fun when the photo or painting seems to study you as well.

When I go to museums, I'm always studying the wisps of hair on portraits or gazeing over the patterns in their wrinkles, freckles and eyebrows. next
