A Boy and His Bear

There once was a little sandy-haired boy and his brown-eyed bear which was quite unlike any other This boy lived alone with his one little toy, such a thing is really rare but the boy never knew his mother. Adventurous was this lonely, sandy-haired lad but lonely is such a wrong word for the boy always had his bear. This "lonely" young boy had all that could be had it's really quite absurd this little boy didn't even care to look around his so-called lonely little home and see what was aroung him, what was in his very arms. This adventurous young man always wanted to roam to seek out his every whim to find other people's charms. No matter how trifling the item he would ask to see it, and then make a fair price, and pout when no offer was agreed. Why, how could anybody, anywhere ever dare to see fit not to offer him something so nice, how could they ever, indeed! Often, in his little pursuits of lovelies he would leave teddy his ever-faithful brown-eyed bear, the one very unlike any other. But the sandy-haired boy cared not for what he had already no, he wouldn't even afford a stare, not even a bother. And for years the trusty old brown-eyed bear would gather dust sitting sadly in the cellar wishing only for a friend. One day an angel came, as all good angels must, how glad bear was to tell her, how glad to see what God did send. The good angel shook the dust off of poor Mr. Bear and with a flicker of her wings took him up to heaven above. In heaven, such a thing as a brown-eyed teddy is rare a wonder among all other things, and the bear gained a constant love. But down below, back on Earth, trouble had brewed for the little boy please let me bring you up-to-date. People were questioning his personal worth, and stole away every single little toy out of all their jealous hate. The little sandy-haired boy was again alone and distraught and was now laden with despair never had he lost as such! But what puzzled him more than losing all that was bought was that they had not taken the bear that he had loved so much. The little boy cried out his poor little eyes for somehow the bear was gone; oh, where could it have went? The angels above, they heard the sandy-haired boy's sighs, they knew what must be done, and all heads were sadly bent. A solemn procession led the brown-eyed bear down to where the little boy knelt praying for his faithful friend. And up above God shed a single, happy tear at the wonder inside that he felt the happiness the sight did send As boy and bear threw their arms around each other and the angels sang their songs and wept all of their happy tears and the boy forgot about losing his toys, losing his mother, and felt forgiven for his wrongs, and forever lost his lonely fears. copyright 1997, Steven Woods
