Well, well, well...I've added a zillion new CDs to my collection, but haven't had a chance to let you in on what I've been listening to. So, here are a few examples of what's been on my CD changer for the past few weeks that I just can't seem to get enough of - I know this is going to be a bizarre mix, but, well I suppose that should be expected from me by now, don't you think?
On constant rotation I've got Beck's Mutations, but I still have to say that I think Odelay is better. And then there is the latest discovery - Esthero's Breath From Another Planet (thank you, Leah, for that recommendation - and yes, Esthero does in fact remind me a bit of Bjork mixed with Portishead). I also had been waiting quite impatiently for Luscious Jackson's latest release, Electric Honey, which was definitely worth the wait. And now, since my whole new thing with Swing Dancing, one of the greatest albums I've bought in a long time doesn't even necessarily need to only be heard by swingers - it's more like updated Billie Holiday - it's The Flying Neutrinos I'd Rather Be In New Orleans. I first heard the band at a supper club in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, and have been hooked ever since. Definitely at least check out the sound clips on this link.
Now I've got to come up with what some of my favorite songs are that weren't already on my previous list - (this one may take awhile to update!) I think I'll just add here what some of my other newest CDs are that I've been hooked on. Careful, now - there seems to be somewhat of an incongruity in what my preferences are, so don't expect any of the following choices to make much sense! Let's see...there is:
- Mono's Formica Blues
- Moa's Universal (ok, ok, she's kind of a Portishead wannabe, but she's absolutely beautiful and DOES have an ounce or two of talent)
- Lenny Kravitz's little protege, Cree Summer's Street Faerie
- I've been addicted lately to The Doors album 'Morrison Hotel'. It just seems to bring back memories of summer or something
- And speaking of bringing back memories, The Violent Femmes always does it. All I have to do is hear 'Blister in the Sun' and I'm an angry 13 year old again!
- Oscar Brown, Jr.'s Sin & Soul is a brand new introduction to me, and I LOVE it! It's like listening to a male-version of Nina Simone - plus the album includes the original version of 'Dat Dere' which Rickie Lee Jones re-recorded on Pop Pop
And same with deciding on what may be some of my new favorite CDs that were already listed. Again, this may take awhile:
