Snow White and the Seven Deadly Sins
Once upon a time in a far away land, a princess named Snow White was born. The princess' first breath was soon followed by her mother's last. The king was a kind but often bemused man. As he looked upon the small sleeping form, he was overwhelmed with the resposiblity of caring for the child. He decided that his young daughter needed a woman's influance to grow up properly. He soon married the most beautiful woman in all of the kingdom.
The princess soon grew strong under the loving care of her father and stepmother. As an indulged and petted child she haf a life that was envied by the common folk. The girl became very beautiful, with raven black hair, and a peaches and cream complexion. Soon all the young noblemen began to vie for her hand. She favored the most handsome(and richest) of them all.
The girl, though beautiful was not perfect. She had some problems of the mind. One of these was her paranoid belief that her stepmother was jealous of her comely looks and was out to get her. She also believe she was always being watched and listened to.
One stormy night the pricess's mind completely snapped. She ran screaming through the castle halls, claiming her stepmother was trying to kill her. She ran out the palace doors and couldn't be found.
Snow White ran through the woods like she was being chased by bats out of hell. As she stumbled in the dark and forboding woods, her mind conjured up images of the fate she supposed she would have to face if her stepmother caught her. All through the long night she was frightened by the hoots of owls and the baying wolves. Even the twisted tree limbs seemed to reach for her.
As the first rays of dawn broke, she stumbled upon a small cabin. She frantically pounded on the door, but there was no answer. She picked up a rock and smashed the glass window out of the door. She enter the house carefully.
She was amazed by the funiture of the home. It contained seven small chairs at an equally small table. Seven tiny beds stood all in a row. Everything in the house was covered with dust. Dirty dishes and clothing were piled everywhere. Snow White was too tired to care and gratefully colapsed on one of the beds.
She was awakened several hours later by the sounds of voices. When she opened her eyes she saw she was being stared at by seven small men. The nearest one, the one with the large belly, began to talk, "We're the seven vertically challenged men. Who the hell are you?"
" My name is Snow White. My stepmother was trying to kill me, so I ran away."
The men turned away and began to discuss the situation. Soon they made up their minds, and the fat one began to speak again, " My brothers and I decided that you can stay here if you help us clean up."
" What are your names?"
" My name is Gluttony, and these are my brothers: Lust, Sloth, Greed,Envy, Wrath, and Pride."
Each one, except Sloth waved when his name was said. Envy whined that he should have been the one to make introductions and Wrath screamed at him to shut up.
Snow White adjusted to her life as a servant to the little men. She had her hands full listening to their arguments. Greed would comment on the amount of wealth he had and Pride would claim that he was still better. Wrath shouted all the time, and Envy complained that she always gave the others larger portions of food. Gluttony would over eat, and she worried about the way that Lust stared at her. But all in all they got along fairly well.
One day the princess had a slight relapse. She ate an apple and chocked on it. When she was revived she claimed a witch had given her the apple to poison her. The little men shook their heads and vowed to keep a better eye on her so she wouldn't be able to harm herself. Alas, they too soon forgot their pledge.
Lifw went on as usual for a while, with the bickering, complaints and a few happy times. Life seemed good and full.
Then on a fine sunny day the men returned to find the cabin dark and quietm and the girl lifelessly slumped on the floor. The lack of blood gave them hope, until they examined her at lenght. It appeared to them that she had managed to strangle herself with the lacing of her corset, though they were certain that she would blame her stepmother had she been alive to make the accusation.
The others wanted to bury her, but Greed declared that he wouldn't let the worms and other crawly things get to her. So instead they devised a glass coffin in which to display their dead friend. At day's end they would gather around the coffin and mourn her passing.
A few months later, after the first snow had fallen on the wooden ground, their virgil was interrupted by a stranger on horseback. The rider was a handsome young man dressed in the colors of one of the noble houses in the kingdom. The stranger wordlessly approached the coffin. As he peered in his eyes began to fill with tears that soon trailed down his cheeks. One of the wayward tears found its way through a seam in the coffin and dripped on the coffin's occupant, wetting her breast.
The silent stranger was about to mount his horse when he heard his name called out. he turned to see his love, Snow White, standing behind him. She kissed him and declared his great love had restored her. He gathered her up in his arms and rode off with her as she shouted her merry good-byes to the little men.
After her short stay in an insane asylum, Snow White and her prince were married with the happy blessings of her parents. The little men stayed frequent visitors after the wedding. And after a while the royal couple was blessed with a child, who people often said oddly resembled the little man Lust.
