The "pastel or pasteles" wrapped in a plaintain leave is a typical plate and original of Puerto Rico. It is composed of a "masa" mixtures from "yautía", "yuca" or "ñame" and green bananas (guineos verdes) that are grown in the tropical island of Puerto Rico and contains meat like pork. This typical plate is commonly served during the Christmas season. The "pasteles" has been compared with the Arabs "pastel" that is wrapped with cabbage leaves. The Puerto Rican bread is very similar to the French bread. Some images in this section were scanned from Puerto Rican Tourist information books and other sources (e.g., BIENVENIDOS, QUÉ PASA, cover of a record) and others my photographies.
