THE QUESTION
A voice from the darkness whispers in your ear,
A gentle voice not heard for a long time,
The voice sparks a long lost memory,
A memory of what has been,
A memory of what could be,
The voice asks a question,
A question of choice,
Yes or NO,
Something so simple,
But sometimes the most complicated choice of all,
To choose one or the other,
But not both,
A decision that has to be made,
How you answer is what makes you what you are,
And shows you what you were,
The voice whispers asking the question again,
“…Would you care to dance?”

WAITING
You see her from across the room,
An angle fallen to earth,
You come close behind her,
She smells so sweet,
You breathe deep and whisper in her ear,
Time stands still,
Frozen,
You wait,
The mind wanders,
Did you make the right choice,
Did you make a mistake,
Will she accept,
Will she refuse,
A simple decision,
Do memories triumph,
Or fear,
Does images of the past sway her choice,
Or thoughts of what could be,
You have no control now,
How she chooses is a test of faith,
You hold your breath,
She turns to you,
Her dark eyes sparkle in the soft light,
You ask again,
A smile,
She takes your hand as you walk out to the floor,
Gentle you hold her in your arms,
And nothing else matters…
