From March 7th to the 11th I had the good fortune of escaping the Delaware winter and going to warm, sunny Playa del Carmen, Mexico. It was really quite unbelievable!
I left Sunday morning from Philly and flew directly to Cancun. On my way to Playa via airport shuttle & then bus, I got a brief tour of the Cancun hotel zone; it looks like the United States in a tropical beach setting. Everything in the hotel zone appeared to be Americanized. Yuck! So anyway after riding a bus for 60 km to Playa del Carmen, I had arrived at this lovely, picturesque, Mayan fishing village.
Thanks in part to its location south of the Tropic of Cancer, the weather was incredible: every day it was sunny with temperatures in the low to mid 80's. At night it cooled off a bit to maybe 70, but since I was recently yanked out of a winter setting I wore shorts and a t-shirt constantly. There was always a great Caribbean breeze blowing, basically negating any humidity. It was just like a fantasy. It still seems like a fantasy!
Beachwise, the sand is quite white and fine while the ocean is warm, clear, and oh so blue! I'm just dying now thinking about it!
Incomprehensible!
I was in the ocean and on the beach every day for good reason. Did I mention...
That's all for now. There's so much more to say including where I stayed as well as my snorkelling days. Adios!
