Monday, September 15, 1997 -- Working without a net

Remember: Change is a good thing. When I got to work today, the proxy server I use was dead.

Ok not completely dead, it's screen was black, except for two message boxes. One said,"Cannot fine file "c:\program files\wingate\readme.txt". I don't know what the other one said, because, when i pressed "Ok" nothing happened.

I rebooted the PC, and it never came back. I finally just shut it off.

I was immediately afraid that someone had been fiddling with it, and removed the internet stuff off of it. So I went into my pc, and quickly removed all the non-essential software, and started working.

I slipped over to the net machine in our office, and let the people I normally talk to know what was going on.

Then the new people started moving in.

Ok, I had kind of expected this. We had a new project start gearing up, and they are planning to take over my office. I figured they'd leave me alone, until I was done, since no one really knew how much longer I'd be on this project.

Around mid-morning, the Branch Manager called me, and told me to start boxing my stuff up, they were moving me tonight. So I did.

The other thing going on in the office deals with the account reps sending me out to customers, and trying to get me a new project. Of course, no one is telling me what's going on with the St.Louis project. Of course, I haven't asked, either. I'm not blameless.

I'm just going to really get some work done, and try to pull this off. If I do, then I'll be doing really good, and I'll be able to go on to the next thing without much worry. I'll probably wind up working overtime this week..or something.

I slipped out of the office at my usual time, and headed home.

I have no idea what tomorrow will bring.
