A controlled fall, hoping for a safe landing. |
Monday morning Gary stopped me at the elevator. He asked me if Mike had gotten to me on Friday. Of course, Mike hadn't. After all, if he had been getting back to me more often, then things in general would be better. I hadn't heard from him job-wise in over 6 weeks. I went ahead and told Gary that. He nodded, shook his head, and told me the news. "We've hired a guy to take this project off your hands, he'll be here this afternoon." Get him up to speed, and see what you can do, he'll be here until friday. I was supposed to have an interview today, at the same place I had a good one before. Since MysteryMan was coming, I had to call and postpone. They guys at Computemp (the agency I am going through to get hired) are pretty upset with me. I keep moving this one around, based on whether Azura can get me there or not, and general stuff happening at work. I didn't move it far though, just until the next day. MysteryMan showed up, and I quickly glossed over the project, but he was so late, we couldn't even get his computer set up. The next day we spent setting his computer up, going over it all again, and I got some more pieces done. I went to the interview, and it went really really well. I talked to the guy I talked to last time, and to his boss. All in all it went well, and I could tell them I'd be able to come in monday, if my current company didn't want me to work notice. Computemp called the next day and offered me the job. After I told the people I work with, and they decided MysteryMan knew everything he had to know, they decided Friday could be my last day. I told them I'd leave my phone and email, should MysteryMan, or anyone, have any questions, and that seemed to relax them quite a bit. The real problem all along is that it's all in my head, and not really anywhere else. I wrapped things up with my current employers, did the exit-interview thing, and got out of there early on friday. Free and Unemployed (at least until Monday!)
We've been on again, off again all week for the business. Mainly talking about things, and generally communicating. Squirrel only came over a couple of nights to work/talk with us. One night we went out shopping, and I found a really good Photoshop book, that I'm hoping to put to good use. I've gotten to the point that I know enough about the program that I can actually learn how to use it now, i.e. it's moved from toy to tool. Azura is made outfits for us to wear to the RenFair this weekend. Moose, Squirrel, Azura and I went, as well as some of Squirrel's friends from Virginia. Azura and I wound up walking around the Fair by ourselves, since we were all going at different paces, and Squirrel wanted to hang out with her friends. Azura and I agreed to return to the Fair later, when we had more money to spend. I wanted to conserve my cash, since I didn't know when I was going to get paid next, or how often. So we decided to come back down in November, on the weekend the SCA is here (and hopefully after we reconnect with the SCA). All in all we had a great time! I'd never been to a RenFair before, and while it was much more mercantile compared to a SCA event, I still had fun. At the end of the day, we watched the joust, and rooted for our knight (and he won!). Our knight was the evil knight. Our chant: "Cheat to Win! Cheat To Win!" Our knight responded: "I don't cheat because I need to, I cheat because I want to!" Well, cheating isn't a great thing, but, let's face it, our guy was more fun. Somehow this week, I successfully extricated myself from the problems I had at my job, and wound up having a good week. It was still really busy, but things were looking up, for once.
