HURRICANE

It's not that I'm cynical now.
It's that I'm no longer confused
between love and lust.
I no longer send my heart in blind
to sort it out, no longer imagine
that my love has the power to transform.
It's that I've come to understand impermanence.
It's that I love permanently.
It's that this one love was a hurricane
that raged through my life,
came and went with equal fierceness,
a weather system I could never stop,
one that never ran its course.
It's that I have traveled many miles to stay
within the eye. It's that I never could.
It's that to argue is pointless.
