Other problems include improper color rendering and lack of material 'maps'. I've checked the VRML code and it appears
to designate the correct colors and maps, but they do not display correctly. I'm still trying to discover the problem.
(If you're experienced in VRML and have an idea what may be the problem, please let me know.) I also attempted to add
animation to the VRML world (the doors are supposed to open for you when you get close to them), but it didn't turn out
as expected. (I think I may know the fix to that problem, but I don't have time right now to correct it.) Download an AVI movie
if you're interested in seeing the model with correct materials, lighting and animation.
Finally, I'm not real happy with the interface of the Cosmo Player plugin. This is ridiculous, but I can't seem to figure
out how to move forward or back in the 'Walk' or 'Fly' Viewer modes. (I guess I could read the instructions...)
If you, too, are new to this, my suggestions for navigating through this VRML world are to right-click in the Viewer area
and switch to the 'Examiner' Viewer mode. Also, turn off 'Collision Detection' and increase the 'Travel Speed' considerably.
From there, you should be able to use the GUI (Graphical User Interface, or icon tool) on the left to move forward and back.
First, however, you may need to switch camera views, using 'Viewpoints'. I haven't figured out yet how to set all of these
viewer parameters for you within the VRML code. (I'm assuming that's possible. Again, if you know, please drop me a line.)
My final peeve with Cosmo Player is it's inability to display spotlights. If anyone out there has experimented with different
VRML 2.0 browsers and would recommend one, I'd appreciate it.
The result of all this is a model with too much detail, incorrect (or non-existant) colors and materials, and inaccurate lighting.
It is, however, a self-navigable world, a real breakthrough in architectural presentation! As technology improves (and,
admittably, my programming skills), this medium will prove of consumate value to the client.
