Beat, as in beatitude

I became interested in beat literature after I began to listen The Doors. I began with On the Road, which I didn't really enjoyed first, then I read Kaddish, by Allen Ginsberg, and Mexico City Blues and Visions of Cody , by Jack kerouac, and my love grew. It exploded when I read the most wonderful book to me: The Dharms Bums. I read it on the roads of Scotland, in the bus all day, rain pouring outside. I know it almost by heart now. and I kept on reading, Snyder, more Ginsberg, Ferlinghetti and essays, biography... What striked me was the feeling of relief, peace, detachment of the characters, their ability to enjoy life totally and simply, with all the good things the world can bring us. There was a very strong spirit too. And it was Buddhism, or religiosity in a bigger meaning. So I turned myself into Zen, but that's another story...
