He Was Gold
by Billy McKinney
he was gold
I don't know how I found him
he even wrote me poems
we have this secret synchronicity
both manic at the same time
both depressed we wallow
we woke up at the same time
I still get shy with that crazy look in his eyes
we got dressed for a day at the river
no need together for a disguise
I raced him through the woods, he always beats me
we needed no supplies but
grins & giggles & wild passionate eyes
we hit the slope of the river
slid down it's welcoming bank
we looked at each other wild-eyed
we talked but no sounds arised
we took turns throwing rocks in the river
no hint of sickness we left behind
as he stood up in the sun his gold hair was one
he was gold
he picked up my hand & I knew where to go
we raced to the field where the tall grass grows
he teased me to catch him as he raced from the sun-he was gold
away from the darkness of labels that smother us so-he was gold
I tackled his knees feeling I had one
he was gold
out of breath both of us knew we were like manic like magic-he was gold
back there they All knew
he laid back in the tall grass
my head on his chest
I know he was gold, that's all that I knew
his blonde hair & deep blue eyes of passion
beckoned we make love in the tall grass
the others back there said something was sick with those two
we raced towards the sunset to play something new
he was gold
I loved this day
& tomorrow too
because my gold blonde magic & me
were not a dream
We were One Inseparable Disease
he was gold~
