grandma's kitchen table
come, sit, chat...

now grandmother rock has lived a long time...
i've seen much and questioned all...
and one thing i've learned for certain:
people always do the best they can with the information they have...

now no one does something they think is wrong...
somewhere in their minds, they have decided on a course of action...
somewhere, somehow, they think this is the right move for them...
NO ONE does anything they haven't justified as right...

now what grandmother is trying to tell you is,
we need to learn to extend a little grace to other people...
just knowing they are doing the best they can...
if we begin seeing people in this kindly light,
it can take the fight right out of a situation...
it gives us a chance to reach out and teach what we believe...

now grandmother may seem like a simple old woman,
but simple things can bring you peace...

it's time we were all neighbors...

now grandmother doesn't think that governments will ever give us peace...
grandmother thinks peace will happen person to person, one at a time...
and it starts with recognizing that the person next to you is your neighbor...

sure, we're all real different from each other,
but doesn't that make life more interesting?
maybe we can learn to focus on the things that make us all alike,
the things that make us human...
after all, a smile means the same thing in any language...

now grandmother thinks that all people want the same things...
we all want a healthy vibrant planet,
with fresh water and air, and wild places to explore...
we all want a safe friendly world for our children to grow up in...
we must learn to work for these things together

we are all innocent children

we all arrive as innocent babes...
the place of our births is an accident...
the languages we speak, the color of our skin,
the churches our parents attend,
these are all randomly selected for us...
they say little about who we are...

now dearie, are you going to be a victim of that accident all your life?
or will you show the strength of the human spirit to overcome all odds?
be brave... you were born with everything it takes to succeed here...

you are human... no doubt you have been wounded by the world...
let your broken heart become an open heart...
find it in your heart to forgive and move on
then build something better...
