The Lovely Audience: News

INFO:World Tibet Day, chosen on the Dali Lama's birthday, was celebrated in 51 other cities this year. If you were at any of the events, email the lovely audience so we can share your story. Pictures will be up as soon as developed.

Our Experience: July 10th was World Tibet Day AND the first event covered by the Lovely Audience. Us, webmasters, took on New York traffic and 80oF weather to support this special day in Central Park. We arrived to a crowd of a few hundred people, scattered around the lawn. The front of our attention was directed to a small stage that hung a Tibetan flag, across from which were 4 blue tented, makeshift Tibetan shops. After circling the area, with a shrug of disappointed fan-worship of a certain Beastie Boy, we scoped out the merchandise. Nothing special-- the usually expensive clothing, jewelry and hippie tee-shirts. The first act if I recall correctly was a female Tibetan singer, whose name now escapes me too. She's pretty famous so if you are into that sort of thing, you'd know her (Courtney? with that notebook of yours?). Her shreiks were appresiated; loud and high pitched, smooth and violent, this women didn't need to be singing English (which she was NOT). I have a new found appresiation for Tibetan singers, anyhow. She ran off after 3 songs to some other gigs and the speakers crawled out...One man from Washington raised his voice to eager ears and a women from Brooklyn had a "vision." All in all, we've heard these things before. It's not as if after attending two Tibetan events you don't get the message.
Sometime around 2 o'clock we left to get something to eat and pay the parking meter. Upon our return we saw a group of Tibetan dancers, moving along to the trademarked "wailing" music. We laughed when people started holding their ears. The rest of the day was spent getting tanned on the lawn listening to more speakers. That was basically our experience. The long lasting feelings are that of pure inspiration from these people.
