Reviews For Sept. 6- Sept. 12

  1. ***** "Child Of Substance" By Susan Hubenthal
Absolutely # 5. The pain, the anguish of this mother were shown in every word written here. My heart goes out to her. God give you the strenght to keep reminding parents to "save" their children. I am a victim of a "NOT MY KID" parents. Their son having had problems with drugs and alcohol, in one ocasion driving drunk, hit a young lady left the scene. She spent 4 months in the hospital and recovered. Meanwhile he got sentenced for 30 days in jail. His lawyer got him out in 24 hours for "good behavior". His mother went to work that day with a great big smile and with her fist up she said: YES, WE BEAT THE SYSTEM. Less than a year later, this same son was drunk driving, this time he hit and ran. This time was MY beautiful 18-year-old son. Marcello died alone in his car while someone called 911. This young man got 12 years in jail now, but I got LIFE. His mother still says: "not my son". As a matter of fact, the day of this young man trial, his other brother was next, charged for drug use and for giving drugs to minors. When 2 out of 2 sons, are so involved with police charges, how can a parent stay blind??? Thank you for the opportunity to spill my pain here. Vera Dinsmore mother of Marcello Dinsmore 12/26/79 June/7th/98 Vera Dinsmore

  2. ***** "A Simple Man" By Loyal Wray
I have to wonder how a person can come up with a story like this. Well written. Very professional! Jack Mann

  3. ***** "Our Preacher, Bill" by Raye McDonald
A beautiful poem about a courageous man. It brought tears to my eyes. I have to give it five points. Alice In Wordland

  4. *** "Oh, To Be A Fish" by Alice Bateman
Your poem carries cleverness as it swims around my mind. Gerri

  5. ***** "Mother In-law" by Jack Mann
Being a mother-in-law, it's great not to read a "picking on" poem. The sincerity the poet feels shines through in this one. Glenda St. John

  6. ***** "Untitled"by Tanya Farrington
Tanya tells the story of a young girl suffering through heartbreak. It is very easy to relate to. You go girl. Sammi

  7. ***** Untitled By Tanya Farrington
hey girl that was awesome! I loved it and its really honest on how you feel, you should give it to him! Nicole Davis

  8. *** What Am I Series: Obvious By Jessica Sayer
This poem seems to have a hidden meaning, although I can't seem to put my finger on it. It made me think, more than I sometimes like. Perhaps, that is the point! Jack Mann

  9. ***** "This World" By Verdago
The meaning is clear. The person that wrote it is disturbed by our world out of control. Me too! But this will pass. Well done. Jack Mann

  10. ***** Fairy Tales by Diana Keeton
You obviously are a very special person. You are carrying on her work. Please email me. My address is attached to my poetry. I envy you this experience. Your writing is absolutely beautiful, full of crystal clear imagery. I look forward to talking with you. Alice Bateman

  11. ***** How To Wipe Out Government Sponsored Welfare By Michael Casey
This has got to be a 5 star winner! Well written truth always is. This has even crossed my mind from time to time. Good job, well put. Jack Mann

  12. ***** Daydreams By Loyal Wray
I really needed a smile and a laugh tonight. After walking around mopey for a few hours I remembered precisely where I could find a grin. So I headed for your site and clicked on Loyal's story. It worked! He really knows how to humor folks. :-) PJ

  13. ***** "A Day To Remember" By Jack Mann
While the rest of us watched and watched this day over and over on TV you were right there in the midst of it! Well written - a day that should be kept alive. Alice In Wordland

  14. ***** Salvation By Mike Winters
I have to give this a five, even though I tend to like traditional rhyming poetry. A very impressive first submission from yet another good poet! Alice In Wordland

  15. ***** Salvation By Mike Winters
Very Good. Well put and very true! A good marriage is not a ceremony, nor does it have any thing to do with sex. It is a union of the souls. Jack Mann

  16. ***** "Fairy Tales" By Diana Keeton
Where's Gene Shalet when one like this comes along? He's been wasting his time! With a little attention, this could be a true masterpiece! I love it! Sandy Mangani

It made me cry...I really loved it...so heartfelt mama catera

  18. ***** Our Preacher, BillBy Raye McDonald
This is a very deep and moving poem. I got chills while reading it and I know how this person must feel. Zowie Black

  19. ***** Angel By Eric Spitty
Excellent, Eric! Brought tears to my eyes, my own personal sign of a genuinely moving poem. I hope you're planning to become a regular contributor. Alice In Wordland

  20. * My Wife, My Lover, My Friend By Jack Mann
I am normally impressed with the work that I see from Jack, but I get the distinct that he spat this one out. He should be less concerned about the rhyming, and more about the content. I'm sorry, content was good, but it lacked inspiration. Genny Clark

  21. **** "For Ken" By Emily Janiak
Another good canditate for a 'prosetry' section. Good therapy for the writer, but maybe a little too personal for a lot of others to relate to... Alice In Wordland

  22. ***** Take The You Out Of Us By Alice Bateman
Alice has reached a point of honesty with this poem. I love the way she speaks of her heartache as if it were a burden she has dropped. I praise this one highly because I feel, and have felt this way. Kudos, Girlie!!

  23. ***** My Wife, My Lover, My Friend By Jack Mann
If I were your wife, I would be sobbing like a baby as I read this. Almost did, and I'm a guy. True love is a rare thing; few can do it right - especially for 37 years! God bless you both. Roderick Young

  24. **** Star Gazing Stella By Alice Bateman
A thought provoking, well written poem. Gives your mind something to think about and to ponder. Jessica

  25. ***** Salvation By Mike Winters
Sounds like someone who has found his true love and losted it or looking for her. Its describtion is one that I will keep near my heart, waiting to use it to make sure I've found my own true love. Jessica

  26. **** Halloween! By Jack Mann
You gotta love the nostalgia when you read this great poem. Mr. Mann sure caught the mood and atmosphere of this All hollows even. A poem unlike anyother. Jessica Sayer

What a wonderful, well written story. I would love to hear the rest of it. What happened next? Jack Mann

  29. * "To My Little Girl" By Jack Mann
It has too much rhyming for my liking. I do not get any real deep feelings from any of his poetry. They may be cute, but he needs to keep his poetry in the family. Tina

  30. ***** "What Am I Series: Obvious" By Jessica Sayer
Well written, makes you think... for some reason it made feel sad, but ALL I want to know what is the poem about [object, feeling, person?]. Cheryl Eldridge

  31. *** Memory's left to shed By Ben Stottlemyre
I have read this poem ten times and for the life of me I can't figure out what it's about. There is something about it that makes a person enjoy reading it. It seems to be a mystical love gone bad, maybe a pregnancy and an abortion. ???? I would like to know. Jack Mann

  32. ** Memory Bank By Alice Bateman
Second stanza threw me off--memory bank, then embers--calls for more sophistacation. Got theme. Add more elements and pack some power into it, as potential is there. g.

  33. ** Karen Alice Bateman
Hi, Alice-I feel the hurt in this piece, but I really think you needs rewrites. Your piece comes across as a first draft, and there's a lot here. You are sad for her, but it seems and sadder for you. Yet, better written than one about memories, but because the subject matter is so highly striking, I'd love to see a rewrite. g.

  34. **** Memory's left to shed Ben Stottlemyre
This is one of those times that I wish we were across from one another, with a wine in hand. I liked the images, not sure that I totally understook what you were saying. "Some" images confused me. Watch the grammer--I remember "to" for "too"--it does distract. Again, would like to talk to you about it. Good piece and good writing. gerri
