This design is composed of straight lines which form
beautiful angles
and give the effect of a mask. It can be worked on
a vertical or
horizontal board.
For this project a black thread was used against
a white velour background. This design works best
in one color of
thread, particularly a cotton crochet thread.
The Mask design can be effectively worked smaller
or larger on various size boards; the one used here is 16" X 24".
Making Your Design Pattern
Using a ruler and pencil and following Figure 52 as
a guide, draw
your design pattern. Each line (A, B, C, D, E, and
F) should be
approximately 7" long. The full-size pattern should
be about 11 1/2" at
the highest point and 14" at the widest point.
Place your brads about 1/4" apart. Label the lines
A,B,C,D,E and F;
label all brads. Line B,C,D, and E will have a common
center
brad (see Fig. 52).
If you don't want to go through all this trouble making
the pattern,
click on the pattern image, right mouse button, and
save the image
to your hard drive. Then print the pattern on your
printer, set your
printer so it will print 8" X 10", this now will be
your pattern. All
the other pattern's will be done the same
Working the Threading Pattern
All lines are threaded using the one-to-one correspondence method.
1. Thread line A with line B: Tie at brad 1 on line
A, pull to brad 1
on line B, return to brad 2 on line A, loop around
and return to brad
2 on line B. Follow this sequence: 2-3; 3-3; 3-4;
4-4; 4-5; 5-5; 5-6; 6-6;
6-7; 7-7; 7-8; 8-8; 8-9; 9-9; 9-10; 10-10; 10-11;
11-11; 11-12; 12-12;
12-13; 13-13; 13-14; 14-14; 14-15; 15-15; 15-16; 16-16;
16-17; 17-17;
17-18; 18-18; 18-19; 19-19; 19-20; 20-20; 20-21; 21-21.
