"Nathans Devons"
Thomas Shea
Where is old Nathan Devons,
The fearless sea pirate?
He is already sleeping
On the silent ocean floor
In his galleon
With his crew
Sleeping off last night's
Drunken festival
Of songs and sin
Deep, sighing slumber amidst
Old gold and bristled barnacles
Dreaming soft, magical visions
Of Spanish terraces alight with flames
Perfumed maidens in loose linen gowns
Hearty laughter and rich scents
Of roasting venison and beef
Musket powder and candle wax
Old Nathan Devons, asleep at the helm
With a bottle of wine in his fist
On a mighty ship
Scarred by fish fins and sword blades
The sad, sleeping sea scroundrel hero
A lusty, life-loving dreamer
Fast asleep on the silent ocean floor
Forevermore, forevermore.
