A Princess and Gift

Once...once a very long time ago there was a princess. A pretty 10 year old girl with long brown hair, perk big brown eyes, and could stand showing a beaming heart full of laughter and glee. What a sight, she said to herself. The valley below with rushing waters down to a big waterfall, trees and bushes of deep greens, animals coming for their daily filling of water. Soon though it would be covered with snow and deeply cold, her favorite time of year. Christmas was coming and Santa was going to bring the princess something special…her father.

Years went by and the wars, society, life, came and went. The princess was much older, and very angry for her life without a father. She did all that could to make a family. Had two sons, a good husband, and lived well as possible. Well, yes, she was a princess after all. There were many things she needed to do for her people and lands. None were ever forgotten or left undone with troubles. The princess was still left with a deep inward loneliness, she wanted her father back from where he went, a war, of which never came back. Christmas was never the same, oh the kids were shown a kindness, and she never let on as to how mad towards Santa she was throughout the years. The snow was really bad this year. The kids always out of school, they were getting schoolwork sent in the mail, also bored because of never having to get out.

About twelve days before Christmas a young man of thirteen came to pass the town. He was named Joshua. Quiet and in need of some comfort. The princess saw he was in trouble, asked Joshua to stay with her family until the weather broke so he could move on. He agreed with saying there would be payment from him in chores and duties bestowed on from the princess. The princess agreed. She saw something familiar in this child of thirteen, just couldn’t put anything to it. The eleventh day before Christmas there was much happiness in her house, laughing, giggling, and playing. Everybody had a different tone since Joshua came to her home. She was caught by surprise since she thought there was always much glee and happiness around. The princess watched and gave some thought to this new wonder of her domain. It was the tenth day before Christmas when she decided to ask the boy who he was really and why brought to her lands.

There was quietness in the house, the children were asleep, husband down for the night. Joshua was sitting by the window watching the snowfall so elegantly fall and land amongst the other snowflakes. She came up to him and sat with Joshua to watch.

"Can I ask some questions, Joshua."

He looked back and said, "yes my princess, I was wondering when you were going to come and ask me."

She was taken back by his answer. "You knew me to do this…but how? I gave no signals."

"Oh I have known you for a long time, my princess. I was the one who gave you this land and name. You have been so desperate for love and despondent because of what happened so many years ago, it was time to make some changes."

The princess sat and looked hard at this boy. Then realized it was the same young man her father was in many of those family pictures. She was devastated.

"Why now? So many years and time has changed things."

"Because of the heartache and giving your children a false feeling of Santa. Because of the way you carry those inward hurts, the time was now. You cannot give like this and go on without doing damage to others. I have come like I am so you would not be so hateful if seen as was when you were young. You were a wonderful child, so happy and giving to others no matter what the consequence. You need to forgive me, yourself, and be who you to be in your heart without so much pain. That is why I come now. Why its time for you to be free of all the hurt."

Princess sat in wonderment and looked at her father, as a child. She knew he was right. Knew also he was here for her to stop those felt pains and begin a new way of thought. All she could think was give him a huge hug and did. For a long time they sat by the window looking out at the falling snow and beauty.

The boy looked over to the princess and said, "God comes to all of us at some point. Through the day He gives greetings and miracles, giving and giving without so much a hint of getting anything back. So much more during Christmas, we know why. A special son of his was born. Given for all of humanity and life. So many miss Him and can’t be touched. You are very lucky my princess, very lucky."

"I know father. I’m so stupid and ignorant of that fact. These years were wasted when there could have been so much happiness."

"My daughter, you didn’t waste anything. The love carried over to your children. Your people out there love you. It was inside towards yourself the mistake was made and will now be rectified with a gracious gift. Me telling you I love you and always have. My princess, rejoice the wonders of God and Son, the children you have, and that sleeping husband you adore. All is well and will be throughout mankind. Oh silent night, so sleeping you are, so come all ye faithful and rejoice…for a king has been born."

A small tear slides from the edge of her eye. Down the cheek and drops onto the back of her hand. She was given a miracle and knowing this, can go on into her life with what she felt as a child. A brilliant star lit the sky, as she saw it was spread with glee and joy all over her body. The boy just slowly faded away…

It was the ninth day of Christmas and all through the house a hush was heard, until mother, a Princess awoke. She ran downstairs and yelled for her children to rise.

"Come children lets all go out and play in the snow!"

The kids ran to get their muffins and shoes. Her husband looked at this woman, smiled as scratching head, then off with everyone else. That day was filled with fun, happiness, and everyday thereafter.

The eighth, seventh, sixth days went by before Christmas. She explained of how the boy was needed to go home and be with his family. To give them love and show the way of his sorrows, his mistakes. It was time for him to go. They excepted that and continued to be pleased with what they had when he was with them. The stories and laughter, which followed from their mother and wife, were never without being around. Every day of every hour was a happy and wonderful time of life, just like when she was a child. The walk up to where overlooking valley was a long one. She did this at least once a month from then on. Never forgetting the special gift.

It was now Christmas…

The princess awoke and sleepily gazed to her husband. He was not there. Where could he be? She rose from the bed, grabbed her robe and went downstairs. As she turned on the light they all screamed…"Merry Christmas!" She stood and smiled, tears slowly streaming down her face as shaking head. Her son David came up took her hand and made a gesture for her to sit in a chair, the middle of room. Then the other son, Gabriel, came over and bowed as giving a present. She nodded, took the present and began opening it as did. It was a picture of her father. Joshua was standing next to a Christmas tree, holding a picture of his father next to a Christmas tree. In the background of Joshua’s held picture, there was a fireplace with a faint light coming from it. If looked real close, very close, you would think to see speckled stars and glittering of little things floating about. Was it Santa? Maybe and then again maybe not but the princess knew her family knew of who Joshua was and why he was here. Nothing could or would be said. They stood and sat by her looking at the tree all lit up, the fire blazing, giving thanks for the day, their life, and Christ. It was His day after all.

The End

Ever Wonder?
Why does the light of life for Santa die out?
Where did all those fairy tales go of his being here and there during Christmas?
Ever Wonder?
Why we have lost the touch of what Christmas really means?
How come society spends money to commemorate Jesus being born?
Ever just stand and give thanks for being who you are and why?
Ever Wonder? The real reason you don’t see a gift, as yourself?

I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. With all that I have been through it came to me on how thankful I am of who I am and where in life I was directed to be in this moment of time. I would hope you all see the wonderment of yourselves and why your time in life is just as important.

smiles
