While this wasn't my first cover for the weekly, it was, at that time, the one we developed over the longest period of time. One of our writers was dealing with the medical labyrinth as his wife's health declined. As this was a heavy in-house story, it needed a different style than the usual alt-weekly cover. Elements were taken from clip art libraries and run through different Photoshop filters. The caduceus was created on the computer out of wholecloth. Speaking of cloth, the patient's robe was taken from the side seam of a child's sweeater. The writer was very happy with this as he thought it struck the right tone. This was done over a couple of weeks, and it even printed well, much to my shock. The colors didn't lose their vibrance at all even though the image ran on newsprint.
