I certainly don't consider myself a poet, although
when I was a child, Mama said I had a natural talent for rhyming.
That was after I wrote her a Mother's Day poem when I was 6.
I wasn't going to include them on my page, but I was so inspired by the
poets in The Christian Rhyme and Meter Ring, who tell the
story of Jesus in rhyming couplets in addition to giving poetic views of
getting pudgy and growing bald, that I thought I'd give it a whirl.
My Poems
To Tara
Oh, Tara, oh, Tara,
Child of my womb,
Your smile is like sunlight,
It drives away gloom.
I love you, my Tara, like the sea loves the shore,
Like the seed loves the grapefruit
And the knob loves the door.
Like the lion loves the jungle
And your Dad loves to snore.
I love you, my Tara,
I can't say anymore.
To My Friend Ruth
If truth is beauty
And beauty, truth,
You have to meet
My dear friend Ruth.
Ruth is gorgeous,
Ruth is sweet,
Her legs are perfect
And so's her feet.
She has lovely children
And lovely pets,
If only Ruth would give up
Cigarettes.
To the World
There's not enough love in the world,
There's too much hate and violence.
If you don't have something nice to say
The best recourse is silence.
If all of us would just join hands
And fill our hearts with kindness,
The world will see the light at last
And keep itself from blindness.
