Did I mention my birthday's coming up? September 3rd, and already I'm getting gifts. I got a faux leopard fur skirt from my mom, who also got me a new pair of glasses to replace the ones I lost a couple years back. She's promising to fulfill my cooking gear dreams and get me the rest of the stuff I need.

Cathy surprised the crap out of me when she got me a $40 gift certificate to Amazon.com. Trust me, the money is already spent. I was toying with the idea of getting a paperback copy of Dragon & Phoenix, since it was cheaper than hardcover, but the paperback version isn't coming out for a couple months and I'm all about instant gratification. Instead, I decided to further my knowledge of the Amish with The Amish in Their Own Words. It's a collection of articles the wrote for their publications. I want to know about them beyond their popcult portrayals in movies and Weird Al Yankovic videos. This seemed like the least retarded book to get. The other thing I got was a Chelsea Quinn Yarbro book, Blood Roses. I might have told you that I collected vampire books, once upon a time. Chelsea Quinn Yarbro is one of the best writers in any genre, and most people haven't heard of her. I lucked out because my parents had two of her books that they got from a yardsale. And yes, it's a vampire book.

Those two books plus shipping came out to $37.72. I believe in quality over quantity. I can get hundreds of crappy books free at the library, if I'm truly so inclined.

Speaking of celebrations, Dirk and I celebrated our third anniversary yesterday. I stayed up late the night before to bake him a cake; unfortunately, we have no cake pans. No problem, I used one of our pyrex mixing bowls (oven, microwave and dishwasher safe!). However, the cake looks funny, since the center rose so much more than the sides. Rather mushroom-like. But the cake tastes good since it's a chocolate cake with chocolate chips and hershey's chocolate syrup.

Wouldn't you know it, though? Dirk came home from work yesterday morning sick as a dog. He went straight to bed and stayed there until it was time to go to work again. Happy anniversary. He still hasn't eaten any cake.

On to other topics. Dirk will have to find another job; Lowes is keeping the stockers on night shift at least until the end of October. We can't handle this. It's too stressful to be on completely different schedules, and nothing really gets done. I'm tired of sleeping with the lights on. Dirk's gonna start looking as soon as he starts feeling better.

AnimeGirl is going to be staying with us for a while. As I explained before, we are suckers, and I couldn't live with the idea of her sleeping in the woods around here. We are not, however, retarded. We're getting a lock for our bedroom door. I still have my old mattress and box spring set, so we've set that up in the living room for her to sleep on. We'll see how it'll be. I'm hopeful right now.

I don't think I told you about going to a Goons show where Serge was handing the mic to Dirk to sing the choruses. One of their albums, Living In America, is available on Amazon.com. You might wanna check it out. I'm going to go buy apple juice for my Dirk now.

Dirk and I could really use a new T.V. set, so if you aren't already a member of StartSampling.com go here to sign up, and please put skatterkat in the ‘referred by' box. It's free, and you get samples of really cool stuff! If you e-mail me and tell me you did so, I'll try to work out a way of sending some frog erasers your way.
