Kentucky
Writers'
Day
Let’s see. . . April is National Poetry Month. . . April 24 is Robert
Penn Warren’s birthday. . . what can we do to celebrate. . . hmmm. . .
Look no further! You want to have an event in April that focuses on
Kentucky writers?
How about one that joins hundreds of other events throughout the
state all on the same day, comes complete with a free planning guide, and
even offers suggestions for and writers to travel to your town?
How about Kentucky Writers’ Day!
April 24, 2000 is the third annual celebration of Kentucky Writers’
Day. It is a partnership project between the Kentucky Arts Council and
the Kentucky Writers’ Coalition.
And we have set a lofty goal. We plan to have 2,000 people giving
readings, performing, teaching workshops, leading reading groups,
appearing on TV and radio, and hosting events on April 24, 2000.
The first 2000 people who register their program and send us the
documentation will be part of that special group, “The Kentucky Writers’
Day 2000.”
Your event can be anything where people get together to talk
about, study, read, or hear from Kentucky writers.

Over the past two years, we’ve had school classes, churches, reading
groups, writing groups, literacy classes, public radio stations, and
even Gov. Paul Patton involved in Kentucky Writers’ Day events. It’s
something everyone can do!
So how can you become one of “The Kentucky Writers’ Day 2000”?
It’s easy!
Just call us at 502-583-9010 or fill out the information request at the bottom of this page. We’ll
help you plan your event, send you an event kit with publicity materials,
how-to lists, and timelines, and even offer some possibilities of writers
who can come to your town or group.
In fact, we’ll give you a little hint of some of the writers
available right now: Alan Naslund, Billy Vincent, Connie Alexander,
Ernie O’Dell, Kathleen Driskell, Jeff Worley, and John Harty. So call
