There honestly aren't many bands in the '90's
that I feel moved by in the least....
{Here's a chance to remeber the '80's instead!}
The elite few I feel a need to listen to
are but these:
-
KULA SHAKER
These lads actually fell through one of those space-time portals
that you hear so much about....Each member is actually FROM the
year in which he claims to have been born. They continually
claim to be a true band of the '90's for fear of probing
experiments by military scientists.
Bonus points for being vegetarians. And for putting Radha-Krishna
(although the most WESTERN-looking depiction I've ever seen!)
on their debut album cover. Haribol!
SUPER FURRY ANIMALS
The Move meet Mott the Hoople and I think Ray Davies is singing
albeit yn Gymraeg. Brilliant!!
THE SEAHORSES
They're the Monkees with Page on guitar. 1969
never sounded so good. And then they went and broke up :(
MANIC STREET PREACHERS
Don't like their politics, but great guitar rock for the '90's.
And they're WELSH!!! And they come in three radically different sizes: TALL Nicky, compact James, and under-the-bed sized Sean. They make a right good noise, so more power to 'em!
OASIS
Not into the politics or the smoke/drugs/drink/bad attitude...but
LIAM is truly a king MONOBROW (!) and it's good guitar rock
even if it's very bandwagonesque to say so.

BUSH
I never liked Nirvana (sorry!) but this English band has made
Nirvana's sound acceptable to me. These guys look well-groomed,
seem well-mannered, and hey, they like Oasis too...
TORI AMOS
True she's not a band, and not really "Rock"--but she's
the only SHE on here, and the only American. I love this lady!
GRANT LEE BUFFALO are also a redeeming American outfit.
I would also like to say some kind words about SUPERGRASS and PULP. They have produced a good few witty and clever
singalong tunes, although I probably only like their KINKS and/or BOWIE
qualities....face it, not one single band of the '90's can compare
to the '60's classics(!) Thus spake Marty.
