william turner
english painter 1775-1851

Rain, Steam and Speed - The Great Western Railway, 1844

There are [of course] many ways to prepair for work.
This is what one of Turners fellow travellers on the Exeter express could tell
about Turner's "research" for the above painting:

"He asked permission to open the window
and put his head in the rainstorm for nine minutes,
observing and memorizing.
The next year I saw the painting at the Academy."
