my e-mail interview with
Dale Thompson
Lead singer of Bride.
I had the pleasure of doing an e-mail type interview with
the lead singer of Bride. He is doing an awesome job with
being on the internet (their page) and answering every e-mail
sent to them. (wow!) I wrote him and asked him if I could
send in some questions for an interview type thing and he said
yes. I sent in the questions and about a day later there were
the answers in my mail box. (that was fast!) Anyway, here are
the answers:
1. How did you come up with the name Bride?
We had tossed around many different names. Back in 1985 when we
started it
was common for a band to have just a one-word name, like Queen or
Cinderella. The name Bride came from the Book of Revelations where it
speaks about the city of New Jerusalem.
2. Are any of you married?
I am married with three children, Troy has one child, and Steve has son
and
Jerry two boys.
3. Where did you grow up?
I grew up 30 miles south of Louisville KY in a small community with
close
neighbors and good hunting.
4. What are some of the best parts of being in a band?
Getting to see so many different places a sew travel and having the
opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ to so many people.
5. What are some of the worst parts of being in a band?
Being away from our families and the strain of being on the road
physically.
6. What are your goals as a Christian band?
To reach as many people as we can with the gospel of Christ and allow
God to
take us where he would take us to.
7. What do you think your responsibilities are as a Christian band?
To be faithful in what God has called us to do, keep ourselves unspotted
from the world and to serve as Christ came to serve and not to be
served.
8. Any particular songs that you've done that mean a lot to you?
"Would you die for me", "If I live for you" stand out because they are
songs
about unconditional love and surrender to the cause of the cross and
everything it stands for.
9. What are some of your favorite Bible verses?
Romans chapter 8 and John chapter 17
10. What bands do you listen to?
I've enjoyed so much music it is hard to pick favorites. I will say
that
Jars of Clay are surprisingly good.
11. if you could have any band open for you, who would you choose and
why?
Doesn't matter who opens for us, I would like to open for Jars of Clay
or
Third Day or even The Newsboys on tour.
12. What advice would you give Christian teenagers who want to start a
band?
Go to college get an education, become a doctor or an engineer, listen
to
music and enjoy music, but unless you're willing to pay the price music
is
the hard way. Though it may seem to some that bands like Bride is
sitting
on top of the world, it is not a life that I would pick for myself if I
were
choosing a career. This is what God has asked me to do. The reason he
asked me to do it, is because he knew I would be faithful, dependable
and I
was open to receive his gifts. Sometimes I think there is some poor
boy out
there who my life was intended for but he wouldn't listen to God so God
looked down and gave me the gift that was intended for the other guy.
13. if you could have the ear of every teen in the world for just one
minute, what would you say?
Life is short, time is running out. Jesus is coming back. If not in
your
lifetime you will still have to die one day and meet Jesus Christ. It
is
much more pleasant to have met him in this life and worked out things
with
him here than to wait until he returns in wrath. If you meet Jesus in
this
life and receive his spirit, believe in him and follow him walking in
his
footsteps, then he knows you. You have bonded in a personal way. You
give
your life to him and you belong to him. In turn he gives you eternal
life.
If a person chooses not to seek out Christ in this life and to walk
their
own way, when that day of judgement comes, he will not recognize that
person and he will say to that person depart from me I never knew you.
It's
like getting a nametag at a party when you come through the door. If
you
fail to get that nametag, you can't stay at the party cause you don't
have
the correct credentials.
14. Anything else you want to say that I neglected to ask?
I would just like to add that if a person reading this knows of someone
who
is lost and who loves rock music, pitch them a copy of The Jesus
Experience
and show them that Christians can rock to. They do not have to listen
to
the garbage of the world.
