meeting her
The wheels on the bus slowly make their rounds while the windows shake with the bus' movement. Jon looks out the window at the passing landscape, then back at the bible sitting open on his lap. His eyes gaze left to right as he read the words on the worn pages. But the bus soon makes his stomach turn, so he puts the Bible in the seat pocket in front of him and leans back in his chair.
His mind wanders, then turns to Her again. He's run through a thousand different scenarios of what it'll be like when he meets her. He knows none of them will be much like what it will really be. Nevertheless, he still continues to dream. A smile wraps across his face as he thinks of what it's gonna be like. Looks at his watch, "only 2 more hours," he thinks to himself, "2 hours."
He reaches back to his pocket and pulls his wallet out. Flips through the pictures until he comes to her's. He stops and sits staring at her picture thinking to himself, "Kathryn." He leans back as the memories come flooding in; the sounds, the pictures, the countless hours of chat run through his mind.
He thinks again upon what he was before he met her. How he had hidden in himself and how no one seemed to understand. How he had become something he was not to so many people, so much so that opening up to someone was impossible. But Kathryn seemed to have reached through all that to see the real man and to meet him where he was. Soon she had become everything to him and he'd fallen for her. His inspiration for the day were her letters, his peace were her words of comfort, and he was down only when he wasn't talking to her. A smile swept across his face as these thoughts ran races through his mind.
Now he was going to meet her in person. He'd seen pictures and heard her voice through sounds she'd created on the computer, but he somehow knew it would be nothing like it would be when he met her in real life. She had become so much to him when they were online together. "Will she be the same in real life?" he wondered.
He was getting nervous as the time seemed to continue to crawl on at such a slow pace. He wanted so much to calm down, so he could be himself, like he was online, when he met her. But for some reason he couldn't. He had risked too much and wanted to impress her too much.
He, once again, looked at his watch. "not much longer now," he thought to himself. He rested his head on the seat and closed his eyes in prayer. "God please help me," he cried out in a whisper. The nervousness had begun to take him over. The only calmness he found seemed to be in praying. So he prayed until he felt the bus pull into a parking lot and stop.
When everyone else had already passed him he got up and started following them out of the bus. When he was out of the bus he stood silent for a second, trying to make sure he was composed. And then he saw her.
He ran toward her as she ran toward him. They embraced. All the nervousness seemed to melt as he held her within his arms, and the peace filled his heart. He squeezed her as his arms held her close.
Eternity seemed to have dawned, the bright sky smiled down upon him. Heaven for him was in her arms and he wanted to stay there forever. But, as he knew this was impossible, he let go.
Then their eyes met. And their souls intertwined with a burning fire that seemed to radiate his love for her, only matched by her love for him. He knew she was the only one he could ever love and the only one he wanted to hold. Tears of joy and peace filled his eye and forged a burning reminder down his cheeks as he took her hand. And they walked off hand in hand to what he knew would be 3 awesome days....
