my window view

This was written as an assignment for my English 101 class. The assignment was to look out a window and describe what you saw.

     My view from here is mostly dominated by the other apartment building. I have to edge close to the window to be able to see the dark sky. In the several windows along the apartment building facing the window I can see lights and darkness. Some houses with lights on, showing signs of activity, even though the hour is late. Some houses with the lights off, showing that the family is resting for the night. When I focus on what is happening to the left side I see a street. Headlight after headlight shine in my eyes, the sign that this street is busy no matter the hour. There is the constant sound of cars rattling by. Closer to me, down in front of the apartment is a parking lot full of cars resting for the night. Nearby the guard’s shack is still lit. And every once in a while a car pulls in and finds it’s resting place. And then another light goes out in the apartment in view; another person going to bed.
