I first met Pam Carlson at a Delphi Forum while searching for help on a particular question, and she was most kind to me, a complete stranger, from the very beginning. At that particular time (some 2 years back) I was about to write a project on Health and Well-being for my students and I wanted to deal with some common illnesses as well. Pam sent me an article she had written about her dad, Larry Carlson, who suffered from ALS for many years and eventually -sad to say- he died.
I learned that Mr. Carlson, a brave and kind man, had fought hard against the illness and always tried to be in good spirits in spite of his hard struggle. Moreover, he did his best to help other people. He wrote an article and also a book. His wife, Doris Carlson, is continuing his task. The book will be ready soon and, although she is not free from health problems herself, she is always glad to help everyone. I know she is doing her best to assist ALS patients everywhere.
Hereīs a short poem by Mrs. Carlson:
DEAR LORD
" I had so much more to do, Dear Lord, Why did you change my plans?"
The Lord replied,"Son, I made your plans."
"Oh, but Lord, my wife, my children... ?"
The Lord replied "Son, I made their plans."
"But Lord, I wanted to say Good Bye."
The Lord replied, "Dear Son, in heaven there are no Good Byes"
AMEN
Pam and I have been corresponding for quite a while -and I am glad that Mrs. Carlson, who is already a computer expert, is using her laptop a great deal and has me in her address book. I get the nicest messages from her and some delightful egreetings too. She seems to know when I need a kind word... and she is quick to send me a loadful of things I treasure.
Please check Pamīs page - Itīs just great!
Pam also devotes much of her time to help other people. She is host for several Forums, including:
A bright girl -she is not called Sunshine for nothing, you know... She is also an expert in Star Trek & The X-Files matters, so you know who to ask if in doubt!
Never heard of ALS ? Or even if you have... Read Pamīs article "Living with ALS"!
The Carlsons is a large family and Pamīs brother Mark (as nice and good-humoured as everybody else in the household) also has his space on the www I just checked it the other day -and the page is REALLY worth looking at. Incidentally, I have to drop him a line about quite a few things :)
So now you know how me, an overworked English teacher in Amposta (Spain) got in touch with the Carlsons, a nice bunch who are not just my friends. I think of them as my family, although we have never met so far. I look forward to. Maybe some day...
