Biography

I began to batik whilst living in Texas in the late 1980's. My work at this time was very much nature-based
- cacti, aspen trees, mountains. Batik was a good medium for recreating the immense colour
and lightness of the vast landscapes that I encountered. The work was Texan-sized and predominantly on cotton fabric.

After returning to England the nature theme was again dominant in my work. In 1994 I joined the Batik Guild and started to exhibit regularly within the UK. In addition to using cotton fabric I started to experiment with silk fabric and paper, whilst continuing to look for new ways to explore and extend my use of batik. I enjoy doing portaiture on silk fabric, the finely woven silk allowing for fine detailing in the batik.

Most of my recent batiks are on paper. I love to experiment with colour and composition. The effects obtained are spectacular and totally unique to Batik.
