Tinnitus (ten-NI-tus), gentle readers, is no laughing matter. Tinnitus is a chronic ringing of the ears, which can be brought on by a sudden, extremely loud noise, ear infections, illness, or a whack on the side of the head with a Gideon Bible.
Tinnitus varies in its severity from case to case, but can become so unendurable that it can drive sufferers to suicide or psychotic behavior.
There was a man on the Today show last week who got tinnitus after he attended a Smashing Pumpkins concert. So beware!
