Purpose - Students learn to react and evade an attack through various Stances and Blocks. Then, counter attack their opponent using Kicks, Strikes and other self-defense moves. One Step Sparring also develops your ability to find and strike open targets.

When the command "Jyoonbee" (Ready) is given:
"A" Attackers- start by stepping back with right foot and down block with left hand ready to punch position. Kihop LOUD. When Defender kihops, immediately attack with right punch.
"D" Defenders- start at the Jyoonbee position. On your Kihop, Attacker will strike. Defend yourself with the designated One Step Sparring Technique.

Both right and left One Step Sparring Techniques must be mastered. Here are examples of techniques when a right punch is thrown. Practice defending from both a right and a left punch.



Yellow Belt Requirement:
One Step Sparring Technique Number 1
A- step forward and punch with right hand.
D- step back into forward stance with right foot, down block with left hand/ middle punch right hand/ middle punch left hand/ right front snap kick to center of chest or face.

Orange Belt Requirement:
One Step Sparring Technique Number 2
A- step forward and punch with right hand.
D- step back into forward stance with right foot, and out block with left hand/ middle punch with right hand/ right front snap kick/ back fist with right hand.

Green Belt Requirement:
One Step Sparring Technique Number 3
A- step forward and punch with right hand.
D- step back into forward stance with left foot, middle block with right hand/ punch with left hand/ left front snap kick/ right back kick.

Blue Belt Requirement:
One Step Sparring Technique Number 4
A- step forward and punch with right hand.
D- step back with right foot into a back stance at a 45 degree angle, left knife hand guarding block/ step to a forward stance with left foot, left knife hand strike to neck/ grab neck with left hand, middle punch with right hand/ elbow strike with right elbow.

Purple Belt Requirement:
One Step Sparring Technique Number 5
A- step forward and high punch with right hand.
D- step back with left foot into a forward stance, rising block with left arm while simultaneously striking with right knife hand strike to the neck/ grab arm that was used to punch, step with right foot towards left foot while pulling opponent into your elbow/ step back with left foot and backfist with right hand.

Brown Belt Requirement:
One Step Sparring Technique Number 6
A- step forward and punch with right hand.
D- side step outside of punch, double pushing block / 2 right round houses to body right round house to head.

Red Belt Requirement:
One Step Sparring Technique Number 7
A- step forward and punch with right hand.
D- step back with right foot, middle block with left hand/ sidekick with right leg to knee/ sidekick to face.

Red with Black Stripe Belt Requirement:
One Step Sparring Technique Number 8
A- step forward middle punch with right hand.
D- outside to inside crescent kick with right foot/ left spinhook kick to face/ right back up with left round house to face

Black Belt Requirements:
One Step Sparring Technique Number 9
A- step forward and punch with right hand.
D- side step to outside of punch double pushing block/ step behind opponents' lead foot, ridgehand to nose/ take to the ground/ finishing strike.

One Step Sparring Technique Number 10
A- step forward and punch with right hand.
D- side step to outside of punch double pushing block/ grab opponents' wrist with right hand (hold until throw)/ strike to elbow with palm strike/ step over to inside of opponent with left foot to a horse stance and elbow strike to ribs/ bring opponents' arm over shoulder, pull down on arm/ pivot on right foot around towards opponent / taking advantage of off balancing point throw opponent back wards/ finishing strike.
