Car Window Shade as Canvas
When the car window shade for my daughter broke I came up
with a unique recycling idea.
I removed the shade from the automatic rollup-frame and reversed
it, so that the bottom became the top. One side was white
and the other was dark blue.
Now I painted both sides with a couple of coats of white latex
wall paint.
The pattern came from the Glass Quarterly ? issue. I traced
it with carbon paper on to the shade.
As paint I used white latex wall paint mixed with various
colors of acrylic craft paints. I did not use a paint brush
to apply the paint. I painted instead small portions of make-up
sponges wedges. I found it easier this way to imitate stained
glass as I could mix the various colors with a sponging effect.
The finished design is 15 inches wide and 17½ inches long.

The Mask
One day the local hardware store had a garage sale and we
found that we could get only garbage can lids without the
cans. Our lids seem to always crack, probably because of our
climate. We bought two kinds of lids and one kind fit and
the other didn't. Now hubby asked if he should throw out the
useless one as it had only cost us $1. I told him to hold
on as I would probably come up with an idea for a use for
it.
Inspiration struck and here is the finished result my Rubbermaid
garbage can lid mask. Basically I just used the lines on the
lid for the features of the face. After basecoating the black
lid is painted the design with Acrylic craft paints and seals
it all with a coat of varnish.
