Breakup in the Balkans:

The Tragedy of Yugoslavia

In 1914, three countries with a mutual history of animosity banded together to form the Kingdom of the South Slavs. Eighty years later, that same country, Yugoslavia, was broken up into six countries, with only two still in the confederation known as Yugoslavia. The inevitable, the war which was bound to, but did not have to, happen, had finally broken open like the sore wound that it was. Among its casualties was the ideology that mortal enemies could one day become friends.

NOTICE

The site is undergoing a major overhaul. A lot of stuff won't be available. The overworked webmaster is doing the best that he can, but has many commitments. The histories of the various Yugoslav republics are basically complete, some with more information than others. Hopefuly, the other sections will be up by late May 2000. The Kosovo section will have top priority.

This Week in Yugoslavia:

The Alliance for Change and Serbian Renewal Movement host a massive rally in downtown Belgrade. Over 100,000 demonstrators attend.
