I had my first honest to goodness contractions today. Because they stopped, they were only for practice, but it got me really excited about having this baby. They also totally freaked me out. I decided after hunching over the grocery cart a few times in the supermarket, that I absolutely HAD to get home and at least make the baby's bed and bassinet up. I got a bucket of hot water and lysol and sponged off the mattress and crib and then got clean sheets on everything. I reorganized a few things and then was feeling pretty darned full of myself.
I spent the morning prior to this drinking coffee with Pauline, who admitted finally that what she's upset about is that Steve has offered to take her away on the weekend to San Francisco, but he wants to leave at the crack of dawn, which of course would mean she'd miss our wedding. He'll be gone for a week, so she really wants to be with him, but she also wants to be at the wedding, so she's in a quandry. For whatever reason, he won't come to the wedding. I suggested that they plan to leave right after the wedding (around 1130), and that they'd still have plenty of time to enjoy the day. Steve's kind of an asshole about stuff like that, so if he has something else in mind, he'll toss the whole thing, just to manipulate Pauline, so we'll see what happens. Right now, they're fighting pretty badly, so it may be a make-up weekend for them, or she'll just come and we'll have fun, or maybe they will negotiate something in between. I told Pauline, that I'd really like her to be there, but that ultimately, that it was up to her. It explains why she's been a pain in the butt though. This morning and tonight, I got some work done on the wedding dress. I have most of the bodice put together at this point. I've just got to get the interfacing that goes to the lining cut out and ironed on, and then stitch the bodice to the lining. Then I can go to the skirt. The skirt will be easy enough. What I'm worrying about is the zipper. Zippers and I have a long and disreputable past. I try to sew them into a straight line and they invariably are backwards, cockeyed or something equivalently ugly in a seamstress' eyes. I know that when I close my eyes tonight, that I'll be having vivid dreams of the zipper getting screwed up. What a dumbass dream to have. I guess the fact that I got one side of the front cross-lacing loops sewn facing to the right instead of the left has me a little nervous. I did fix it and I've got to finish a little bit more of that, but what a pain in the ass. I was super smart, too and used teeny weeny stitches for that, so it was just a big horrendous eye strain to see the damned things and rip the little buggers out just enough to pull the ribbon through and get the damned ribbon loops to face the other side. I also bought the flowers for the chapel. I got a bunch of calla lilies and a few deep purple wild irises. Tomorrow, I buy some kind of foil and ribbons to cover the icky black pots. It came to $50, but I allotted $75 in the budget for it, so I've still got enough for a bouquet of pink-edged roses and baby's breath and maybe a rose each for each of the guys. I'm just not sure how I'm going to carry them without them wilting, so I may call a florist's shop tomorrow to see if they have one of those foam filled carrying thingies and I'll arrange the bouquet on Saturday morning. If not, I'll buy them the morning of the wedding and keep them in water as long as I can. Tomorrow, I get the foil/paper and ribbons to cover the pots, candles for the ceremony and a nursing top for Robin, the matron of honor (she's got a 3 month old). And I drop off Mike's shirt to get it professionally cleaned and ironed. Mike asked, "So do you need the car to go have fun?" I glared at him and said, "No, I need it to get stuff done for the wedding." He said,"You should go have fun." Yeah, but it's just errands, babes. When I'm done with those, I've got that dress to work on. There aint no rest for the wicked or the preggos. Robin called and said she's coming up early on Saturday morning, so she can help me out with whatever I need. I think the only thing we'll really have to do is get the flowers together and I'll have to dick around with my hair a little. I did call the woman who cut it a month ago, but she didn't return my call, so I don't know if she's around right now or not, much less if she'll be able or willing to help me with my hair. With the contractions I had today, I was a little nervous about whether Ms. G. will wait til we get married, but I'm figuring I'll cross my legs if I have to and if my water breaks in my wedding dress, then that'll be a hell of a story to tell later. At my appointment today, the doctor did size her up and said as of right now, she's 7lbs and change. We did the ultrasound to make sure she wasn't breach like Bear was and not only is she not breach, she's perfectly positioned right where she should be (anterior position) and there's lots of amniotic fluid pockets around her. She's already a good girl! If you don't see me posting in the next day or two...I'll come back with wedding pictures. Hold me in the light. |
