Birfday Boy!

Russell's first day of second grade was yesterday and I dropped him off rather teary-eyed. I usually hold it together pretty well until I get into the car and then I kind of fall apart a little. I'm getting a little more hardened over time, so I don't have tears streaming down my face like the first day of Kindergarten, but I know I'm just going to get to the "lump in the throat" phase and Genny will hit Kindergarten and I'll become a bawl-o-rama all over again.

What was cool was that his teacher knew it was his birthday and she had him mentioned in her plans outlined on the board. He was pretty jazzed. He knew that Christian, his best buddy, was going to be in is class and was excited about that, too.

At the end of school, we finally got Christian's phone number again, and we've tentatively planned Waterworld for Monday, something both boys want to do. I had left Christian's phone number on the voice mail, so I wouldn't lose it and then in the flurry of the induction process I forgot to move it to the computer rolodex before the voice mail expired and automatically deleted the message. I tried getting it from the childcare center they were both at, but Christian was gone from there for the summer and they wouldn't release the number to me no matter how many times I had assured them that it would be okay.

At any rate, these two virgo boys are peas in a pod and upon pick up at school, I met up with both of Christian's parents and the boys went straight to the playground to play together. It's pretty cool to see two people who are so tight.

Russell got a Baskin-Robbins cake. They actually had an oreo cake, but it had white cake and my child is definitely not a baby that got switched. My child had to have the chocolate cake, so he settled for chocolate cake and chocolate chip ice cream in the cake. He has good taste and it was delish. I was sugared up all night, which for me is a lot like being drunk, but I did a lot of housekeeping to burn it off. I got all the dishes done, swept the floor, picked up all the birthday wrappings all over the house and did all the school paperwork.

Gifts? What was the Russell-nator's take for the night?

  • Rollerblades that adjust over a few sizes. We managed to get him a pair that starts at a size he's almost into and extends for 2 more sizes.
  • Scooter that turns into a skateboard with adjustable wobble.
  • An ant farm
  • Pokemon-themed Sorry board game
  • Pokemon watch (from Ba Nana La-la)
  • Pokemon cards (from Grandma and Grandpa S.)
  • Binoculars and walkie-talkies (from Aunt Gilda and Uncle Bill)
  • X-men gameboy game (from Great Grandma + Great Grandpa)
He also has had fun stuff to do. We did the fair, and then there's a playdate on Saturday. We're calling it a birthday week. I teased Mike and Bear last night that I'm expecting a birthday week. You could see Mike's ears perk up.

You see we play a game. I never know what I want particularly for my birthday. Well, that's not quite right either.

I know what I want, but I want so many different things that it's hard to isolate it to one thing. And there's household things I want, but then that's kind of a suckass birthday present. At my job, if someone gives me an extension cord for my mouse, it's not special, it's needed, so if I apply the same thing at home...I think I'd rather have clothes. :)

My wish list includes a lot of stuff I need. I need my white musk body soap stuff. Mike likes it, so he's been using my big bottle of it, so much so that I had to whack the bottom of it to get some soap out this morning and was grumbling about rotten men who steal your soap. Mind you, I've offered him bars of soap and I've bought him his own bottle of soap, but I've been turned down.

Hrmmf. I don't think I'm giving him any more hints today.
