Paul Ashley - Recordings
This is a listing of just about everything I ever recorded. In a parallel universe, each title is instantly downloadable and linked to a lyric/music sheet. In this universe, we'll have to wait a year or two more for such finery! Drop me an E-Mail if you'd like to hear any of this stuff.
1989
First attempt at recording an album and barely listenable. Who
said your first recording is often your finest?
- I Couldn't Believe (1985)
- Oh Sister (Dylan)
- The Boz Song (Written with Steve Hillier, 1984)
- The Fool In My Heart (1989)
- By Your Side (1989)
- And When... (c1983)
- On Your Side (1988?)
- Who Could Love Her More? (1985)
- Dead Of Midnight (?)
Early 1990
First half-decent stuff. Relies heavily on a crappy little Yamaha synth with
mini-keys!
- Are You So Sure? (1990)
- Stronger Than Sorrow (1990)
- Dolywyddlan Moor (1989)
- How Do You Love (1984)
- Public Space (1990)
- Forever Young (Dylan)
Summer 1990
A very dark EP.
- Babe (1990)
- Stay Away (1980)
- I Once Loved Her (1986)
- On The Run (1990)
Still Life (1991)
A more upbeat collection with attitude - even if most of it is rather
suspect!
- Still Life (1991)
- Station 9 (1991)
- Long Time Coming Round (1991)
- I Want You (1991)
- I Couldn't Believe (1985)
- Open (1991)
- Strength Of Mind (1991)
Killing Time (1991)
Opening album in 'Time' trilogy and an improvement on earlier efforts.
Largely written during Gulf War and features first appearance of Mike Atherton,
playing lead guitar on title track and 'It's Alright'.
- Prolegomenon (Mendelssohn)
- 1914-1918 (c1980)
- Killing Time (1991)
- Far Away From Home (1991)
- Frozen Fire (Turn Back!) (1991)
- Listen... (1991)
- It's Alright (1991)
Broken Time (1992)
My attempt at an epic masterpiece! Multi-layered lyrics explore
psychological roots, love and 'drugs', while music pans across various time
signatures - including 5/4 and 7/4! Over-long and not well enough performed to
qualify as masterpiece but probably the closest I will get creatively...
- Broken Time
- Doctor Said
- Marianne
- Children Of The Modern World
- Sixteen Years
- Say Goodbye
- Bangor
- High
- Drivin' To Wigan
- Lost (written with Suze Cox)
- Grant Me Your Name!
- Blown It
- The Production Line
- Where Are You Now?
- Broken Time (reprise)
Under The Sea (1993)
A nautical shift in gear - long, narrative songs with 'back to basics'
acoustic guitar backing.
- Under The Sea
- The Ship
- Here I Am
- The Storm
- Make Me Free
How Long? (1994)
A collaborative recording weekend with Mike Atherton.
- How Long?
- The Witness
- The Spider And The Fly
- The Ship (1993)
- How Long Riff (Atherton/Ashley)
- Dreams
These Are The Days (1995)
Optimistic conclusion to 'Time' trilogy.
- These Are The Days
- Thinking Of You
- Only Time
- All Is Well
- Still Crazy For Love
1996
Only one song recorded - must do better in '97!
- Lady Godiva
